Pulled apart the fuel pump (Cutout Part III...)

Took alot longer then I thought since whoever did this last stripped out two of the pump bracket screws, but put them back in anyway. The inside of the pump was a mess. The screen was 70% blocked with what looked like dark red paint. The fuel filter and Fuel pressure sensor filter were the same way and this stuff was all over inside the pump, so cleaned all that out. Pulled the tank filter, cleaned that and totally drained the tank. Rinsed out a bit of sediment with clean gas. Put it all back together, dumped in a container of FI cleaner, filled it up with fresh gas.
If that doesn't do it, I'll be pissed :)

I still say this crap is from sonething Suzuki added to the tank or something that came off the inside of the tank.
If the pump screws were stripped someone else probably cleaned it out once already. Did anything else come out when you drained the tank?

I have one of the early 99's. It fell into the VIN range for the fuel filter recall, so I'm assuming the dealer stripped out the screws. The red stuff was in the tank as well. I have the gas can, and there is a good amount of the stuff floating on the bottom. I pulled the fuel level sensor out of the tank while cleaning, and that got most of the dredge out of the bottom. There was rust forming on the fuel level sensor contacts (a good amount actually). Maybe this stuff was some sort of sealant put on the level gauge contacts that dissolved? Don't suppose anybody with a 2000 wants to pull there tank real quick and have a look? :)

Adjustment on mine involved bending the metal arm that the float was on so empty occured at the bottom of the red as opposed to waaay after. I take it they figured out a better way? :)
