Question about riding...

Tell ya what, PM a member called PacificBusa and ask him to forward you the pics of his road rash. He was out riding and a cross wind threw him off track. I HIGHLY recommmend gear at all times. In LA I'd recommend it even more! Splitting lanes is legal and drivers don't even THINK about looking for motorcycles.
As for riding the Busa for the first time common sense should prevail. If your previous bike was a 600 you don't need to exceed 4500 rpm in ANY gear to get the feeling you used to have on the Katana. Not slammin your previous ride, just speaking the truth. I hope you change your thoughts about gear. You can still wear shorts and feel the wind cooling the nads, just have it done through some armoured mesh gear is all we're saying.
Ride Safe

If I crash it will be because some car hit me... not because I was acting like a maniac. I know myself... that's about all I can say.
What does it matter if it's your fault or a random cager's? It's the other cars you need to be worried about.

How many car accidents happen every day? And in almost every one there is one driver who is innocent (you for example) and one who fugged up. You're going to get fugged up nonetheless.

I've ridden on my private neighborhood roads with only jeans, boots and a helmet (no leather uppers or gloves) 20-25 MPH. But, yes, to run a couple of miles to the bank or drug store I'm going to throw on a leather jacket and gloves on as well. It takes about one minute.

And you are going to be learning the Busa in LA traffic! Sorry, P, but you sound like the most irresponsible and unwitting 34 year old I've ever come across and are relying too heavily on the fact that you never had an incident on your Katana.

I'll be learning the busa in Alabama traffic... which is far more dangerous because you can ride faster down a long backroad than say, Sunset Blvd.

I think gear is a false sense of security... if a car hits me, I'll be dead anyway.

Of course, gear will save your skin from scrapes. It's just my choice to not wear that stuff. Maybe I will change my mind. I guess we'll see.
