Springfield Armory is a great model. I used to carry a Springfield Armory XD40 Sub Compact before I bought my LCP just the weight and size is a nice change over. I still have my XD but it mostly collects dust on my night stand. In all honesty I am more accurate with my LCP then the XD40

I really like the XD40; I have an XD and an XDM, both in .45. I am really liking the XDS:)

I am a big fan of the Springfield XD line!

Lots of good stuff, thanks guys:thumbsup: I'm liking the springfield armory Big Bo suggested because it's small, .45, and has a grip safty.

My trusty XD.45 protects my truck; the XDM is by the bedside!

I carry a Sig P238 (380 Auto). Not much larger than an LCP. Great shooting gun. Single action though; I am looking for a double action daily carry piece. On the scoot, it is a PK 380.

What is your preferred carry location? IWB, OWB, pocket, shoulder

I don't know yet. I don't want it visable, but I want to be comfortable. It will depend on how small a gun I can find that I'm comfortable with.

I've seen 22 and 25's but most carry a 380. I've got Glocks but I don't conceal carry.

get a short Ruger Single Six and put the 22mag cylinder in.
i dig single action when things get western. less chance of shootin your horse by poppin off more shots than intended.

Ruger LC9 in the wasteband, Ruger LCP in the pocket, Springfield XD45 in the nightstand...

Gratuitous XD shot...

You're welcome Shawn...

Dad: That's because most of the time when you are out and about - you are in uniform

MC: You would know that MC's gun would be Desert Brown :)

Donn: Does that Ruger stay open at last round fired? I don't think the LCP does and that was a downgrade for me. But you are right; don't buy something cheap and unreliable, and put quite a few rounds thru it, rapid fire hot and dirty to make sure it functions under a wide variety of conditions - also builds confidence that it will function.

Bo: As I understand it, you are a pretty big guy; I can't hide a full size gun on me very well.

Just remember: Buy a gun that you feel good enough with to carry all the time - it it's uncomfortable, you'll end up leaving it at home about the time you really need it. The best gun to have is the one that's in your hand when it's needed...

One of my reoccuring bad dreams is getting ready to get into a gunfight, and not being able to get the dang thing to fire (always comes apart in my hands) :banghead:

Steve, did you end up selling that one?

i used to carry a xd 40 3" subcompact and honestly hated that gun my lcp shoots better than it did, and my preferred carry location is iwb on my right hip for my 380 same place as i carry open or with my larger pistols between 4 and 5oclock position never carry at 6 oclock or you will hurt yourself

Whatever you get, become very proficient with it. Weak hand too, and getting it back up if there's an issue.

I don't typically carry for my own reasons, but it's a thinking mans game. Had an armed robbery recently at a subway WTF, anyway an older man and his wife were eating and he was armed. He told us it wasn't worth killing the boy over a hundred dollars. I agree.

I know there are a lot of gun owners on here. I'm getting my concealed weapons permit and curious what gun you guys recommend for a carry. I have a kimber .45 1911 frame and there is no way I could comfortably carry it. As far as handguns, I've never shot or owned anything but a .45. Any recommendations for a smaller gun?

I carry a S&W .500 and .454 Casull as a back up

Whatever you end up with and whatever carry location you choose make sure you practice DRAWING from various positions. I see you already own a fine firearm and assume you have experience shooting, but so many people have CCP's and have stilll been victimized because they couldnt get to it from an odd position (usually sitting) or couldnt get it out quickly enough. also experiment with different holsters. Im a Serpa fan myself.

Theres a fine line there - I'd agree I'd hate to kill a boy over a hundred bucks, but you never know he might just shoot someone (the wife) just for the fun of it....while he still had his gun in the holster. Just because you are carrying puts you under no obligation to use it - either way you have to live with the consequences. My wife has a CCW; but she does not yet have the mindset to actually carry it - she's more likely to pull it out and hand it to the robber than use it on him. I haven't yet figured out how to elict the proper emotion to get the proper response.

Hey Bots how do you like the LC9. I would like to pick one up still.

Love it. It's only marginally larger than the LCP, but the slide locks on the last round and it also has a manual safety for those times when you want one.

Plus its thin, I mean thin. I can't even tell I'm wearing it when its tucked IWB
