Radar detector vs. windscreen tint

Hello, Been Lurking for awhile and now the bike is here decided to take the plunge. Have an 05 (red scheme) and loving it. Wanted to know if any one here using a radar detector has had issues with their wind screens cutting down on the effectiveness of the detector. Just bought an Escort X50 on Ebay and have been reading tha FAQ's on their homepage and one of them said that you should'nt mount it at the the top of your car windshied if it's tinted as it will cut down on the signal strength. Welll..I have a ZG touring shield light smoke color and it will be right behind it. I hope it doesn't affect it too bad. Thanks! Glad to be aboard.

Pic should be below if I did it right---->

The x50 works just fine behind your tinted windscreen. I've had one behind the dark smoke and it works great!

You may want to have a look at the H.A.R.D. system. I have that and it works great!

LASER is the only signal that will be affected by tint, and if you pick that up it's already too late. I have an X50 on the Busa, and I really like it. It works great.

Think I'm going to just use the earphone jack for now and see how it works. H.A.R.D. looks like a sweet set up but, being poor and all right now...

BTW do you just use the window suction cups that come with it?

I bought a second window mount (yes, suction cups), and I put it down agaist the top of the gages. I hard wired the power to the battery with the Smart Cord install kit. I mounted the Smart Cord box on the top triple clamp, so I could see it easily. I'm going to get it hooked up to my HUD when that option is availible for my SportVue.

Congrats. I don't think the windscreen will prevent the 360 degree protection the X50 provides. I'm going to try and have something creatively done for the X50 I bought and will post up pics when I can. Hopefully, it will turn out well. Enjoy that new bike!

I have an X50 mounted behind the plastic fairing on my 05 gixxer (Since it is so small up front and no real good place to mount it) I didn't know if it would work very well there but yesterday it saved my bacon. I was just about to pull the front tire up for a little wheelie play time and my H.A.R.D. light came on. I had a 1/2 mile long straight stretch on a back road and at the end it dropped over a fairly steep hill. So I just idled along about 40 mph and half way down the stretch here he came over the hill top in his SUV with K-Band on the dash just blazing away! My set up saved my buns at least a half dozen times last year. I feel naked without it!

I'm using a Beltronics cordless express 946 with the earpiece. Works good, however I know I've been lucky on more than one occasion. How reliable is the X-50 and H.A.R.D system?

It works great! I have the X50 blue with H.A.R.D. and I can't imagine riding without it, especially the Busa which I am now becoming acquainted with. I disabled X-band detection which cuts down on false alerts.

Check out radarbusters.com- Radar Roy is great to deal with.

I did quite a bit of research before getting the X50, it seemed to be the best all round performer. As far a cordless goes, the escort Solo2 looked like one of the better ones. One thing that seemed to be mentioned often about cordless detectors was they do things to conserve power which I guess makes them not as sensitive picking up active radar scans right away. I don't know. They do come with a power cord anyway if that was a concern, but if you used that why not just get the X50. I am by far no expert in this matter though. BTW, the Valentine 1, Bel Pro RX65, and Escort X50 were all pretty much on an even plane.
