I've been batting round the idea of getting a fun car to play around in thinking about an RX-8 but have been reading some pretty mixed reviews.

Can you enlighten me Bro? How is your RX holding up, do you like it, and would you buy it again?

I'm also looking at the the 06 Volkswagon GTIs and some others, but wanted to know how you liked your RX.

I do like the looks...

Too much drama surrounding performance claims and actual numbers for me to trust that car, Mazda even had to buy them back from unsatisfied customers.... i would look somewhere else.

06 GTI doesn't sound like too bad of a choice, bro.

A good play vehicle? SE-R Altima. Good room, decent handling and good grunt.

Flaw? FWD.

If you want an RX, I'd go with a 93-97 RX-7. Turbocharged Rotary, making more power than the 8, and I think it's lighter. Also, easier to modify.
wink.gif

Nuther toy to consider... 93-98 Toyota Supra TT. BIG power can be made.

Not too worried about 12 HP or whatever the issue was, I don't want an older RX I like the new generation much better. Same with the Supra, I'm not after a boy racer mobile with the coffee can exhaust, I'm looking for a "sporty" car, not a sports car. Something that can strike a balance between great handling and power, with all day comfort and usefulness.

Will prolly be looking at some 3 series, and some SLKs as well. Used of course but not too used, just enough to shake the depreciation off of them.

I did notice a few recalls with the Rx-8's and you have to be careful not to run em' outta oil, and not to flood them. But otherwise they are differen't, sound like lots of fun to drive and relatively inexpensive.

Now were is Raider???

well hell...call it a night and grab the SLK. I'd play around in a SE-R Altima and an RX-8, but an SLK? That'd be a damn fine selection.

Won't ever happen for me, though. Too damn big.

The last time I was in a GTI I was impressed, it was a long time ago but I remember liking the way the car went about things. So I would say this is a real possibility. But then again that same money for a new GTI could buy a slightly used car too, but the GTI looks to be a real value...

BUT, I don't like front wheel drive, it removes half of your control ya know? But we'll see.

I've also been diggin the Audi TT for a few years. Kinda funky lil things. Quatro of course, then yo uhave year round function.

Yeah I have that same concern. I drove a buddies SLK awhile back and if I remember right it was a pretty tight fit.

I'm thinking that around 2001-2002 these should be in the right price range. New, they are simply more than I want to spend for a toy I wanna keep things under 30K-25K would be better.

SLK's are supposed to be really well balanced little cars.

yah...that's the only niggle I have with the altima. FWD.

I forgot about Audi. The TT is a damn sweet choice. It's not your everyday seen-that-already selection. Beautiful sound too.

The M series is cool too, but alas, it is in the same category as the SLK.

Looks damn fun to tool around in, but too damn small for a heifer like me.

I can look and drool, though. Sometimes it sucks to be "livin large", ya know?

Seriously, though. I could barely fit in the economy class airline seats. And it wasn't just about my big ass, either. It was my friggin bones touching the damn sides.

I needs me a car that's got some space. Unfortunately, those lil zippers above aren't as gracious space-wise. I'd look like a gorilla on a tricycle.

I found a few Cadillac DeVille's for sale...
wink.gif
Those will fit ya Bro.

There is also a stack of Cadillac CTSs out there...

OH OH Looky what I found... $23k 23k miles, 2003. could be just the ticket. VQ Motor, Hmm....

Oh sorry, not with these wheels and lowered... I mean a silver 2003.

I am going to see if I can scare up an M-coupe though Bro, I am not too hopeful though, they didn't make a lot of them and folks that have them keep them. SO maybe a TT Quattro would be the way to go. They are differen't and I don't see them everywhere.

haha...yeah. That's about the only thing that I'll fit in. Friggin land boats.

The Z is a pretty damn good option too. For myself, though...I'd rather hit the G35. Love it.

The M45 is a most excellent choice. I can see why people keep 'em. Very decent amount of torque (at least the later models) and the finish and comfort levels are damned good. Heck, I'd like to tool around in one of those too.

The Quattro. Damn nice ride. Hmm....all black with Gunmetal rims and chrome accents?

Let me put it this way . . .
Since Tony (RC51) and I bought our 8s (July 04)
He has ridden maybe 5 times, he is having that much fun.
If ya buy a new one you shouldn't have any recall problems,
Yes they burn a little oil and the gas mileage leaves a lot
to be desired. BUT they are balls of fun especially around corners!
I've bought 2 and if I totaled one I'd buy another. I've got over
30,000 on my black one. We regularly take four my size or taller
people out in it with NO problem. All in all it rates a 4.5 outa 5.
I think of it as a cross between a BMW & a Jaguar as far as the ride/
handling compromise goes. The steering is like it reads yer mind.
6 secs to sixty ain't the fastest out there but ain't slow either.
And she'll live at 8k all day if ya want. Cause its a rotary it spins
therefore high RPMs don't bother it. (Doesn't have to very sudden stops
every rev like a piston engine) Buy one, far better than a Volkswagen
front drive no feel POS!

I agree completely. My brother has one. It is fun as hell, and cool as hell to be in. It does eat gas like a ford excursion but it's worth it as a secondary car. He has had no issues what so ever.

That's Good to hear. I under stand that they burn some oil (by Design). And I understand that you can flood them pretty easy, and that fuel milage bites. But hell, you don't buy a car like this for fuel economy.

There is a black one just up the street for sale. I think I am going to go for a little test drive later this week. I think I'll fit, but I'm not sure. I like the looks, and I like the concept.

So you would say that they would be a fun car for headingup into the mountains with, hitting some twisties?

Thanks for getting back to me Bro, I appreciate the feedback.

One more question, how critical is break in on the rotary engine? Cause if it's super important then I might pass on a used one.

I think that I am going to end up driving all sorts of cars here in the next couple of weeks.

-RX8
-330ci
-350Z
-Caddy CTS
-GTI
-Hell maybe a GTO??

I gotta figure out what I really want. I really want...

-Under $30k prefered, maybe.... MAYBE a tiny bit over for something super special...
-Manual tranny OR a good SMG
-Rear wheel drive prefered, all wheel drive OK
-200+ HP, I don't need a lot, just enough to get outta it's own way..
-Room for 2, more is OK.
-Some luggage would be handy, Weekend kinda stuff.
-Leather, A/C, Killer Stereo, I can take or leave, would be nice but not a big deal.
-HAS TO BE FUN
-Used prolly, maybe new...

I guess the biggest thing is fun, if it isn't fun then I may as well just buy another bike with good seating and comfort for a passenger. really that is what I am doing.

I worry too much when I have the wife on the back of a bike and I usually end up not having too much fun, I just cannot relax. I mean I am not a Huge Buff dude, but I am big enough to take a good hit and keep on trucking, I've proven this a few times.
laugh.gif
But the wife is small, small bones ya know? and I worry a great deal about her well being in an accident. Just not sure how well she can take a hit. I mean the scooter messed her up pretty good, and that was with armor and at a pretty low speed.

SO

I figure a car is the way to go when we want to take a trip for the weekend somewhere. Hell maybe a drop top? Something "Sporty" doesn't have to be a sports car, just FUN. That's why I was batting around the Pontiac Soltace for awhile, but it and the Saturn sky both violate the HP minimums.
wink.gif

Besides, for 12 years the wife and I have pretty much only had one car, I've allways had a bike so it was no big deal, but we are going to be getting her something new soon (FX35-45) and I kinda want to get her something SHE really likes (Subaru Outback) and I can have my car I really like, a toy. Hell my commute is only 1.4 miles so the car really won't see all theat many miles to and from work, just out playing on the weekends...

What I really want is a 2006 Corvette Z-06 but they are a bit spendy and I like to do other things too... Like Eat.
laugh.gif

Anyhoo, sorry for the babbling... Kinda tired N bored.
