rear footpeg question?

how do you get the rubber off of the rear footpegs i started to try to take it off and i noticed that under the rubber it has the traction part like a regular footpeg. but it seems that they laid rubber over it.

Believe DR1300R did that and had his powdercoated.

I just trimmed the edges of the rubber with a dremmel, and polished the rest. Looks cleaner than stock.
