this is a little segment for fellow busa owners to post pics of what i call redneck engineered pieces.

hoped that phrase doesnt offend anybody but thats what i always called it. these are mods you make yourself and cant just buy somewhere and bolt on, or either parts you do buy and then modify to fit your need. ill post some pics of my redneck mods so you can see what im talking about. i figure if everyone pitches in and posts pics, it will give others ideas or insight on what they can do to their bike with little or no money. please give me a little time to post all my pics before replying. ill write finished on the last one.

this is my blinker mod. since i cut the entire shovel piece off the back, i needed a place to put my blinkers so i screwed off the reflectors and thats where i mounted the blinkers.

next is the airshifter bracket mod. i didnt want to buy a bracket so i tapped a hole in the motor mount bolt and put a long screw in it.. i need to sand the rust off. on the other side i used an existing hole in the frame to put my guage.

this is my axle mod. very easy...just switch the bolt to the other side. makes taking the wheel off easier without having the muffler in the way. doesnt work for those with dual mufflers.

next is a little appearance mod. i got tired of looking at the ugly black push pin so i drilled a bigger hole in this dash piece and installed a fairing bolt. just looks better imho.

next is my 2nd fan mod. i bought an 01 gsxr750 stock fan off ebay and mounted it on the right side of my radiator. notice the jb kwik weld holding it on. thats some good stuff. hard landing wheelies, a 80mph lay down, a 50mph laydown, a couple hundred degrees of heat, and 3 years and its never broken loose.

next is my hump mod. this wasnt my idea but it was something i did with my own hands so i call it redneck engineered.

the wire you see on this pic goes to my radar detector or gps or camera or whatever i can put on the stem stand. its hard wired to the battery. in another pic you can see how i turn it on and off.

this next mod keeps your windscreen from rattling by placing a piece of paper or whatever where it meets the middle of the nose fairing. dont know if you can see it or not but its there. this wasnt my idea either but its a great mod.

here is a mod i had to do totally on my own. i dont know if anyone else has done this. if so i couldnt find a link. i have a 00 busa with the external fuel pump. when i layed the bike down i wanted to replace it with 04 busa plastics. only problem was the 04 had the fuel pump in the tank. i didnt want to have to paint my 00 tank to match the 04 colors so i bought the right color 04 tank and cut the bottom out of it. i then welded in the bottom of my old 00 tank. this way i can still use the external pump and still have the use of my fuel gauge.

pic of tank. i bought it off ebay for only $130. no way would i have been able to get a nice matching paint job that cheap.

ok, this is the tiger tail i bought. i didnt exactly like having to get rid of the stock inner fender because its provides a little structure for the tail so i cut of the front half where the battery is suppose to sit and i cut off the back half cause i didnt like how it stuck out the back. i also had to trim of the sides so i would fit nicely. its also better this way because there are not a many places for the water to get into the inside where my electronics are. i put a little duck tape around the edges to keep it from cutting into stuff. later on ill put some foam filler where the holes are to keep out the water.

ok this is the last pic. i promise. on this pic you can see the top side of the tiger tail. also you can see how a turn on and off the power to the radar. and that airline you see with jb weld around it goes to my air compressor. i bought an air compressor from auto zone then took the motor itself out of the casing and mounted it to the side of the subframe. my pcII is mounted over there also.

ok guys, those are my redneck engineered parts. dont try to make to much fun of em

hopefully others have some different things that can help the rest of us get more use from the busa without having to spend alot of money.

set-up looks sweet.

More pics on that gas tank, though. I have a 99 and the tank, as you know, got rusted.

I was debating whether or not to do something similar. How was the process?

process isnt hard. i bought the 04 tank for 130 then sold my perfect 00 tank for 270. then i bought a beat to hell 00 tank for 75. so when all was said and done i was able to upgrade and make 65 extra. anyway i took an air powered cutting wheel and and cut the fuel pump mount out of the 04 tank. then i went to the 00 beat up tank and cut the bottom plate out that contains the fuel petcock and sending unit. i welded it on the 04 bottom. you have to use the thinnest welding wire you can get or it will just burn thru the metal. then to make sure the welds wouldnt leak, i bought something similar to jb weld from auto zone but its in a putty form and there is an outside layer and an inside layer. you squish and mead the two layers together and work it into whatever form you need and in 3 to 4 minutes it dries harder than steel. and its not affected by gas or solvents. wish i could tell you the name but all i remember is i bought it at auto zone.

interesting. What about the fuel over-flow lines in the tank? Is it just the bottom plate of the tank?

I may consider doing something similar if the sealant doesn't work out too well.

if by fuel overflow lines you mean the two lines that come off the backside of the tank and the hoses run from them to the bottom of the bike then there are no probs with that. just make sure when you cut that you dont cut that far back. leave those on there. i think i cut a square about 5" wide and 6" long.
