So we have some defintions... Doesn't seem to help a whole lot huh? Maybe some quotes?
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Men are respectable only as they respect.
-Henri Frederic Amiel
There is no respect for others without humility in one's self.
-Baltasar Gracian
Respect yourself if you would have others respect you.
OK, Maybe respect from a different direction.... Must respect ones self before you can respect others... Likewise, respect must be given to be recieved. Respect beyond basic civility to your fellow human and basic politeness to the same is not something given away, it's not something taken, it's not something you can demand, it's not something you can obtain through wealth or intimidation. We need to learn that to get respect you have to give respect, simple as that.
-Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up.â€
— Jesse Jackson
A man who lies to himself, and believes his own lies, becomes unable to recognize truth, either in himself or in anyone else, and he ends up losing respect for himself and for others. When he has no respect for anyone, he can no longer love, and in him, he yields to his impulses, indulges in the lowest form of pleasure, and behaves in the end like an animal in satisfying his vices. And it all comes from lying to others and to yourself.
-Fyodor Dostoyevsky
-This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.
~ William Shakespeare ~
-"Never esteem anything as of advantage to you that will make you break your word or lose your self-respect."
-Marcus Aurelius-
"When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you."
-Lao Tzu-
-"Respect commands itself and it can neither be given nor withheld when it is due."
-Eldridge Cleaver-
OK OK, Do I have a freaking point? Yeah it's around here somewhere... Oh yeah... You cannot Demand respect, you cannot gain respect at gunpoint... To be respected you must first respect yourself, and be respectful of others... It's just that simple...
NO I am not a genious... I can just cut and paste... Besides...
