It is with great sadness I have to report that a guy that I knew somewhat from a distance but a fellow rider nonetheless, has passed on from injuries from a motorcycle accident.
Slaughter (also known as "6-4") was a one of those cool guys you would see out and about at the track and on the street. He was older (mid-40's) than most of us, so he did not ride as much as he once did. Racing was his thing though. He loved fast cars & bikes, owning several of both. He taught the guy that taught me how to race. He was always telling us about being safe on our bikes.
Unfortunately, he was riding a friend's Busa the Sunday before last, when a car pulled out in front of him. He was just turning a few corners in the nieghborhood near where he grew up & unfrotunately he was not wearing a helmet. The lady in the car was cited, but that is of no avail, a citation won't bring him back.
Initially his injuries were bad (broken ribs, punctured lung, head trauma) but after a couple of days it seems as if he may pull through. However, he died late Monday.
I try and stay away from these type of threads, but this was pretty close to home. I know it has been said time & time again, but folks wear your helmets. I am no saint myself, knowing how many times I have either hooked my helmet on back of the bike or simply just went off without it.
Please keep he & his family in your prayers.
Thank you.
