Rider killed by driver painting nails!!!

just got back from college station last night...on the way seen 2 people texting while driving, the phone resting on the steering wheel while they typed. at first my wife & I thought they were drunk since they were weaving. this is in medium traffic on I 35.

I know alot of us do not quite understand why some of the things happen do happen,I know I sure the heck don't.But the fact is that they do.And unfortunately this is the world we live in.We have some truly jacked up souls out there. She had NO business behind the wheel of that automobile.Very, very irresponsible of her.She very well should be punished to the fullest extent.I read on here in a reply about the traditions of driver training here vs. other countries.I cannot agree more...If we had more astringent regulations on being damn sure we knew what we were doing behind the wheel it is a simple fact that fewer accidents(more importantly deaths)would occur. We as motorcycle riders are people too.We have all the same rights as anyone else. Why,because our pipes can be loud some think we are a little reckless?!Because some others that were a little wild on the streets made it rough for us all?!O.K.,well just because a Corvette ran over and killed a child I hate every sports car enthusiast....no matter who it is.That's not who we are as humans..or at least I hope it isn't.But I will be damned if it isn't how it is looking.I keep reading from the haters how we ask for it.I would like to know how they figure that one.Someone asked me not too long ago why I own a bike that will go over 200mph. if I did not have a deathwish of some sort. This is one of the many differences in people. The way it should be is by the time a person graduates up to a 1300cc Hayabusa I really hope they have the responsibility to administer that power as it should be without hurting anyone or hopefully themselves.God bless the fallen fellow riders family and us all to continue to ride another day.I love to ride my bike.It is my one true addiction that I cannot give up.I just wish more people would just let us be.Were not hurting anyone.:hello:

r.i.p to the rider and i do believe in "karma" and she'll get hers some day.

"Freitag says Hunt is a mother of five and grandmother of six. When the accident happened, Hunt was driving from Wisconsin to Des Plaines to deliver a crib to a daughter who is about to give birth."

No. No. And more "No"! Hunt wasn't delivering a crib, blah, blah blah, when the accident happened. Hunt was painting her nails and caused the accident. Accidents don't just happen. The other driver died while observing and obeying traffic signs/signals. Seriously!? I love how the media spins sympathy for the drivers and not the riders in every news story they post involving a rider.

+100 Man I am with you on this one, just because she is a mother and grandmother and delivering a crib it is OK to kill someone??

Gross vehiclar manslaughter seems like good charge! Why is it that a motorcyclists life is worth less then someone elses? Another rider (and a mother) has been taken with out reason.....I get feed up with this BS.

I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time, you can't really put talking on a phone and painting your nails in the same category. I can see texting, eating, reading a book, etc. in the same category, but when talking on a phone (at least with me) I'm still watching the road and what's going on. The woman was deliberately paying 0 attention to what she was doing. When you drive a car you have a responsibility to pay attention to what you're doing. Granted, sometimes things happen that are distracting. Accidents happen. But this woman was deliberately distracting herself with a very high attention oriented task that could have easily waited till she got to her daughter's house or got home. Same with eating, reading, etc. I guess responsibility doesn't exist anymore. . .

Try to write a law against painting nails while driving.
What I am getting at is this.... if you write a law it has to be broad enough to encompass too many situations. Which opens it up for an officer to make his own interpretation.
Then you have people issued tickets for just about anything other then keeping both hands on the wheel and looking straight ahead.
Do you want to be stopped for eating? drinking? talking to passengers. Looking at your cell phone to see who just called, having a GPS on the dash.
It could get out of hand.
We have a failure to devote full time and attention law here. It can only be written if a collision has occurred. Law makers are careful not to pass too broad a law and have people complain they are being watched too closely by big brother.
You have to be careful what you wish for, you may get it.
I for one do not want music and my gps made illegal to view and listen to on my busa or in my vehicles.
We do have a law which states a TV cannot be operated/mounted in view of the driver.
There are enough laws on the books now. I am sure where this fatality collision occurred they have a pretty hefty law for what this women did and will probably face 20 plus years in prison if she has the book thrown at her.

im sure when the toxicalogy results are in the charges will fly

I wouldn't hold my breathe for that. It was stated that she was not drinking or drugging. So what the heck to the tox reports have to do with it. She killed someone with her own stupidity. Charge her accordingly and if it does come back she was impaired by drugs or drink then add that to it.

Better yet, bring her down to the local Bike night and announce her presence and post her face on posters. We will save the tax payers of Illinois some money since the law makers and criminal justice system do not want to do their jobs.

Sorry for the rant, but I am tired of seeing my brothers and sisters slaughtered like cattle and nothing done about it. IT NEEDS TO END.

It is not a crime to be a biker/motorcyclist and I am not less of a human because I ride. None of us are. If we sit back and do nothing, we will lose our rights. Just like gun owners and smokers.
Stand up and be counted and recognized before it is to late.

Thank you for the use of the soapbox. We now return to our previously scheduled program.

I see countless people everyday on phones, reading books, painting nails, texting, applying makeup, eating food and all other kinds of shid while they
should be paying attention to the road. For this driver it just happend to be her day she will have to live with what she did for the rest of her life. that alone will probably ruin her. The sad part is it wasn't an accident because anything that can be avoided isn't an accident.

This is sad for all involved. I would hate to have that happen to anyone. The car driver needs to have some kind of punishment though.
