I don't have a problem with texting, reading or anything else. I've done it for years and never ever come close to crashing. The problem is most people cannot use basic, simple, common sense! In other words some people can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time and some cannot. It's just that simple.

I'll probably get flamed all to hell for saying this but the realistic solution is to return to where talking on the phone isn't illegal and texting is a lose your license offense.
Seriously, you aren't going to stop people from communicating in their cars...you just aren't. Most people can drive with one hand on the wheel and a phone to their ear... it's not great, but it's doable.
Because it's less than optimum, they outlawed talking on the phone while driving and now huge numbers of people text from their laps so they don't get pulled over.
It sucks, but let's be real.
I have talked on the phone many times over the years while driving. Usually I just say "let me call you back", or "I'm almost there". Truckers talk on CB's all day long without problems. I've tried texting while driving and it's absolutely ridiculous... I can't even see how a great driver can do it. You have no choice but to take your eyes off the road.
It's an imperfect world and I just have to believe that until a better solution that will actually work is found, that they should remove the laws that outlaw using the phone for voice communication while driving. I think it would save lives right away.

driving and texting is as dumb as reading and driving or putting on makeup and driving.Flat out should not be done.
