I have always said I would never own a Harley. I thought they were big loud and obnoxious. I have to say it was a totally different ride.
I had the chance to to ride my friends 2002 Fatboy and his friends 2002 Road King last night. They were both nice, but I preferred the look and the handling of the fatboy. They are quicker (not faster) than I expected. The v-twin has great torque. You shift them pretty quick, they dont rev and the top speed is probably 100 or so(Busa 2nd gear). I was so comfortable on both of them. I could ride all day on those things. They were not as loud on the bike as I expected either.

I have to admit I would buy one just to cruise on with the girl. Well, I would probably get the M109R

I like the Harley's but don't think I would ever own one, not enought humph for the buck.
The M109R is nice, but from what I can find the accessories are real limited and the passenger pays with less comfort.
The VTX1800 is a good bike with enough accessories and seat options that the passenger can be just as comfortable as the rider.
The Vulcan 2000 Classic LT is another good bike. Big and comfortable for both rider and passenger, plus its got a 180 in the front and a 200 in the back... when cruising on the highway the damn thing is saweet!!!

I do someday want a cruiser and that day is coming soon... I hope.

I've ridden a bunch of different heavies... I think my next bike will be a couch with wheels, a GoldWing with the full package. Nav, Stereo, and heated everything. That way the wife has not excuse NOT to ride.

They are not loud at all outta the factory!
It's idiots (like me) who go and put straight pipes on them and then they are abnoxious...

Nice to see a positive comment about an HD. You ride a cruiser with a totally different mindset... and I agree, the fatboy is a great all-day machine. You will find, however, that the Roadking has a bit more lean angle available..it is way too easy to drag the footboards on a softail.

I wouldn't do it. The around town manners and feel are great, and if thats all you're going to do with it then cool. But otherwise, the Fascination with the oddity of it all wears off after just a few hundred miles and you're left wonder WTF? Do all these folks see in this thing.

2 Things...

Harley

Davidson.

Buy a T-shirt and move on.

Don't waste your money on a Harley, you could buy a track bike and a good jap cruiser for that much cash.

Don't fall for HD's marketing hype. They're not that good of a bike.

After buying my Busa.... the fascination of riding my harley wears off as soon as I leave the neighborhood.....

The new HD ain't bad at all, much better than the older ones for sure. They will not run 186mph but if thats what
anyone is looking for best not waste your money. But remember the Hayabusa doesn't compare with the Goldwing neither as far as touring..really touring. IMO

no the harley is faster than the busa just ask any bar stool comando. we have a guy in my town who says he has a panhead in his basement that was his street bike and makes 175 horse and ran 7 in the quareter. ha ha ha (i m not kidding this guy really told me this)

The goons in my neck of the woods all swear by Harley's because they're "America's Bike"- I always have to remind them tho that in the late 70s, they went chapter 11 and Japan took them over.. I just get a dead stare at that point.

If you like Harley's, that's fine- But get one b/c you WANT it, not b/c you hope you'll fit in better at work.

Two of my favorite H-D's ... Fatboy and Road King Custom. When I get too old for a sportsbike, I'm buying a Fatboy. Cause I'll probably be a fat boy. Here's the '05 RK Custom.
