Anyone familiar with a helmet called Roof? I was told that is has two different visors, tinted or clear and can switch them out on the fly, is the true?

Jim,
JR at www.headhunter-racing.com is one of the rare importers for the helmet. I believe it is a french helmet. If you don't see it on his site E-mail him. I know they look like fighter pilots helmets.

If you read the site info it says that the helmet is not approved for use in the USA and does not have a DOT or SNELL approval. For your information anyone can make a helmet and have it DOT approved but you have your Helmet DOT approved by having the helmet go thru testing in which they drop a weighted pointed object that hits your helmet and some other testing and measurement of the inside padding and the type of chin strap that is used and if you helmet pass you put a DOT sticker and also label the inside of the helmet with safety information. The worst part is going thru the testing and filling out of the paperwork that the government hands you also finding a insurance company that will insure your helmet company. That is why alot of American helmet makers quit making helmets in the USA.Most information about helmet making came from my own experience fighting the helmet law in California.Yes just the Law and not if you should wear one or not it's your choice.

I read that these helmets do have the BS Kite mark stamped on them. This standard rating is very high and all helmets in the UK must have this mark to be legal. I know BS testing is very tough and this is enough to satisfy my requirements. If the airflow through the helmet is as good as my Arai I would get one.

I got an e-mail from the Roof reseller and he told me the helmet is not for road use and it's not DOT or Snell approved, but it meets EU standards ??, basically you get one just to look cool. The price is $450.

These helmets won't save the pilot when his plane crashes, neither an Arai top-of-the-line will if you are run over or crash at high rate of speed.

I still remember my MSF instructor telling us "Please wear a helmet, cheap or expensive, no matter, have something around your head that at least will hold your brain in one place... the worst thing is wear nothing and pick up the pieces"
