Rotella T-6

I know the old Rotella was great on bikes and just about every engine you put it into. But they changed formulations a few years ago. Anyone running the new formulation, how's the performance? I ran Motul 7100 at the track and wasn't happy with the oil degradation after, way to fast and acidic. Thinking of going Rotella T-6 for the track.

I use it and I don't notice any difference from the old formula. It lasts about 2500 miles and then there is some shifts that miss. About like conventional oil. I use it because it's synthetic and it's about as cheap as conventional oil so I can afford to change it just as often. I'd rather have decent quality fresh oil in the bike than old high quality oil.

I use it in all my bikes, the blue bottle diesel oil 5w40. I change oil at 5000 miles for 2 of the bikes but my klr I change the oil at 2500 mile because that bike runs high rpm all the time.

I ruined an engine with it, it was hard on clutch plates which clogged the pickup resulting in the bearings being spun. I say run Motul synthetic or equivalent. Don’t take e chance on hurting your bike.

Any explanation how oil damaged your clutch plates instead of simply having worn or bad clutch plates deteriorate to the point of clogging the pickup?

T-6 is rated Jason Ma/MA 2. I thought that made it safe for wet clutches.
The old formula had the JASO seal on the bottle. I don't know if the new one does but I'm not experiencing any clutch problems in either of my bikes for the last 5 years or longer since Rotella changed the bottle. I believe that's when the formula changed. My ZX-14's clutch has 50k miles on it mostly with Rotella and the fiber plates are still OK. Ready to change but serviceable.

ROOOOtella on the mountain
Over the hills and e-heh eh-verywhere :)

I am skeptical about Rotella. First of all, does it come in 10-40? If it does, great. If not, even Shell/Rotella does not recommend it for that application...like ours, the Hayabusa. Go ahead and argue with me that 5-40,20-15,blah blah blah "Is what I use and have had no issues." Well the guys who designed and built the GSX1300R want us to use 10-40. Why? I don't care why, they chose it from everything else and thats good enuff for a country bumkin like me.
Rotella says their oil is made from synthetic based oils.
Synthetic based ? Not FULL PURE synthetic. It is a mix of oils. It's like drinking blended whiskey when you could be drinking single malt. By law you can stick a label on just about any product and say just about anything if it is close to being true. Some manufactures come right out and say "synthetic blend" others,do not. Rottonella was re-formulated for use in MC and gasoline car applications for many reasons like due to its high levels of zinc and phosphorus.Find me a break down sheet that tells me what levels those were brought down to from 800 ppm.I am biased,I don't buy Shell gasoline,I buy Chevron hi-test 94.Does Shell even have 94? IDK. I could go on but science tells us the average person loses interest in a topic in less that 5 minutes :D but will leave you with just one last thought. Of all the brands of oil on the market Rottenella picks Amsoil synthetic to go head to head with in tests. This means everything to me. I run an' RCC Ultra550 turbo. Some turbo builders/engineers/installers recommend Amsoil 10-40. Do they recommend Rotella ? IDK.
THAT is also good enuff for me.

I am not a spokesman,do not get "kick-backs" nor have shares in the company. I do know that I have been a wee bit rough on my ride for years. It's a daily rider. When somebody like me does "Real World Testing" for years with their oil................I still won't switch.

I buy that stuff in cases an have started switching to it on everything I own that runs on gas. I love the price and that is full synthetic. Feel no difference on my busa and I’m one of those that send samples to blackstone for testing when I try something like this on a vehicle, so I’ll be sending one in at next change and see how it held up compared to Amsoil. I have to say though, I love amsoil and still have a shelf full of bottles in different weights for the different vehicles I own, but it gets really expensive.

Make sure you shop around for it. Sales do come up here and there. It is not that easy to come by on my little island (have to be a dealer for it or something) and having it shipped in myself is costly.
I was paying 25 bucks a quart. Found a new player in town...17 bucks.
I will never step foot in THAT shop again. Dummies. I bought lots there.Last purchase AlpineStars full race suit.
