Rusty Downpipes anybody??

Cleaning the bike the other day, bike on a bit of a slope, leaning away from me. Looking at the underside, I noticed that the exhaust downpipes, under the bellypan, are now a not very attractive shade of brown.

Is this a warranty job, or does it go with the teritory??

Bike is now 1 year old. Anyone else have this problem??

Header pipes are stainless steel and will not rust. Maybe dirt?

I ride everyday rain/shine I did not see any rust.I live in Northern California and we are near the coast or ocean.I did have that on my 89 GSXR 1100,but I did have the plastic bottom off on my bike during the summer months and like I said I did see rust on the pipes.

Stainless Steel? Mine have rusted badly (99) 7000 Miles, the dealer recons its surface rust.

The headers on my R1 were spotless after 16,000 mils and two years despite only being cleaned once and ridden through a British winter (including the Floods in Warwick where I was riding through water deep enough to submerge the wheels completely and come in over the top of my winfer boots! - god knows how I didn't crash and the bike didn't stall! - the bike had covered just 200 Miles at that point.)
