S-DMS Question

Ok... silly question>> Hope not...

Anyway.. if I am riding on the freeway going a long distance, just cruising and therefore decide to switch to C mode ... will this improve my gas mileage?? I am thinking it will make no difference but just curious....

I wouldn't think so either, but I've seen this asked before and a couple of folks say they do and that it does. One way to find out. I always forget my bike has that silly thing until somebody mentions it:laugh:, mine stays in A all the time.

I haven't nothing to offer about B or C mode

Haha, I think most share the same opinion

I tried C mode out the 2nd day I owned the bike just to see if it actually worked and I was surprised by how well it did work when I cracked the throttle wide open and how slow it was. That was the one and only time it's ever been changed.

I have a 120 mile commute and could try this out if we do not get a definitive answer. I normally get 44-46 MPG using my CC on the interstate using mode A (default mode). Once I fill up next time I will try to remember to pop it into mode C and see if the MPG goes up over the entire tank.

More to follow.

good question for sure. i would think it would improve your mpg as long as there was a steady throttle hand. i am interested to hear what sous comes up with.

Yeah it would be nice to know... I am going to Vegas from Dallas via some cool twisty roads but meeting up with other riders in OK City and then riding I40 to Amarillo... That part will be kinda long and boring highway cruising and if I could set C mode and get more Mpg it would at least make that part exciting

Seriously though I am intrigued... Pretty sure it makes no difference but intrigued none the less:beerchug:

I used c mode on a 100 mile interstate ride with a passenger and i think i remember it burning a lot more gas than normal. I would be intrested in your hwy test.

If you did that it would be awesome.... Thanks Man!!!:beerchug:

Do you think it burned more fuel because of the added weight on the bike, or because of the mode selected? I am fairly confident that there will be no difference in MPG from mode a to c on the interstate. Although, I will ride only in "slow" mode on my normal route and see what I come up with.

I just filled up this morning, so Thursday morning is next fill up. Should have some sort of results Thursday.

with all other variables remaining the same, IE: weight, speed, etc. I don't think MPG's will change in either a,b or c mode.

Same thoughts, my "test" should give us a good idea though. I always have to fill up right around 225 miles give or take 5 miles. So, if I run slow mode for the rest of my tank which is 3/4 of the tank, this would give us a good idea on if MPG is increased with a mode change.

I got this from my dealer....

"No setting to C Mode will only take away the secondary fuel injectors. Those are used when you open throttle for acceleration. So to answer your question no fuel mileage will not increase when in C Mode on Highway."

I guess there you have it....

120 mile update, MPG appears to be the same so far. This is going off where the fuel gauge is normally at. I will have a solid yes or no tomorrow morning after filling up.

I don't think the mode setting will matter. I think you get the best mileage by putting it in 6th and keeping the rpm as low as possible, 3K or less. Constant throttle.

But man would that be boring! May as well be in a car with the AC on!
