i just got my schnitz info/product packet. i think its a mickey tire. its advertised as the 7 second tire? has anyone used? is it basically a street legal slick or what?

There are several MT tires I have the flat MT slick and it works great but it is tall.
I also have the MT street leagal slick and talk about hooking on the street.WOW!!
Ps I dont think it will last long so I have two wheels one with it and another with stock tire.

Do not run the tire on the street!! It will blister the tire and dont run the tire on a dyno. The tire is purpose built. It is basically a DOT approved slick. It has very low tread wear and very flexible sidewalls.Yes I have and do run the tire on my shoot out bike. There is no other tire that will hook like one of these tires. You do a burnout similar to a slick burnout(you dont want to grease the tire by getting it to hot).If you want to get the ultimate hook up this is it.
If you want a tire that will still hook up and you can run on the street and dyno or anywhere try the SHINKO 003.

what do you mean by "grease" the tire? i have never raced on slicks. i thought you were supposed to keep the revs down a little bit? could you explain more?

can someone please explain to me how not to "overheat" a slick? i have never raced on slicks just street legal. i am seriously thinking about getting the mickey street legal slick. how do you avoid blistering? correct tire pressure ect.

I have been running the new Mickey "Street Slick" for the last month now and I love it. I ride my bike everyday to work (70 miles round trip) and to the track a couple times a week. I heard mixed opinions on running this tire on the street so I figured what the hell I'll find out for myself. I run 25lbs of air on the street and tire is great, no blistering at all, and I run 12-15lbs at the track. Just don't let anyone drive behind you that you like because the tire is very sticky and loves to through rocks up. When I go to the track my burnout consist of spinning the tire over 3-4 times just to clean it off. With my Shinko I used to have a burn the hell out of the tire to get it to hook hard. Although I ran the Shinko for a long time and love the tire. I have almost a thousand miles on the tire, tons of track passes, and it still looks great.

"greasing" a slick or tire is a dragracer term that means that when doing a burnout you only want to heat the tire up just enough so that it sticks.Burning the **** out of the tire or slick heats it up to quick and put so much heat into it that the tire actually becomes slippery or "greased".
Drag tires are desined with a desired and optimal heat range in mind. No, this ins't the heat range index on the side of the tire I'm refering to.It is a range of heat that the tires' compound becomes sticky.Thats why you see dragracers using infared heat guns to see what a tires reading is after a burnout.
hope this helps.

ok, one other question. how do i tell when it is around the temp i want? do i just smoke it slower than usuall and let off earlier?

this is how I do mine,

I spin the tire over till i see a little smoke comming off of it then when i feel the tire trying to push a little forward on the bike I release the brake and go and do a dry hop(practice launch)

Wronglane - 1.48 to about 1.53

c_rod2000 - Spin the Mickey over 3 or 4 times with about 12 to 15 pounds of air and it will be fine. With the Shinko I would spin it until it started to smoke and then rolled out of it. Therefor the Shinko don't last long at the track with the big burnouts you have to do.

bennie byrd - That was on the Mickey. With my Shinko I think I got about 800 miles on it before it was wasted. Those big burnouts killed the poor Shinko and I had to do them if I wanted to hook. On the Mickey just spin it a few times and off you go.

1st gear...Just rev it a little then spin the rpms up a little...Just remember with the Mickey all you need to do is clean it off and warm it up a little...3-4 rotations or so should be fine...

hey gsxr boy , would you really recomend the tire if im not doin a whole lot of racin?i dont have a swingarm or anything. also i get tempted once and a while to show off to the "little gixers" showing em few on the peg donuts and burnouts. will that totally destroy that tire compared to a dunlop?? because actually the prices are cheaper than the 207's

You dont want the mickey thompson tire if you are not drag racing the bike. There is no need for a shootout tire on a short wheelbase bike. It would be a waste of money if you dont really make alot of hp and are having tire spin problems.....
But if you are hell bent on getting one then youll have plenty of traction......We will be placing a order again shortly...sell them for 200.00

I would tend to agree with NLR. You will not be doing any doughnuts on that tire! It would most likely hook and send you flying. The tires main purpose in life is dragracing. If your mainly doing street riding and playing around I would use a Shinko or possibly the Dunlop.

FYI:
Schnitz has the Mickey for $189.00
Shinko for $159.00
