Sequestering Carbon

My guiding principle would be that the eye is drawn to the gloss, but passes over the flat. Think of the eye like the wind: it wants to flow. I'd keep the diffusers flat, but that's me. * And from the fitment side of the equation, especially if you're tall, make sure those levers are aligned with your forearms for ergonomic comfort. ie, they may want to be rotated down a little. ** the stock master cylinders can only rotate down so far. I'd like them down further, which is why I'm considering brembos...
That is a couple of quite useful perspectives on visual attention and airflow, @dcnblues. I have the RCS17 (and 16 for the clutch) CC RR billets with short leavers on their way, but despite my full SS hardline and Hel flexible swap outs I am still going to not get anywhere near the feel I had playing around with on an ABS free RC 8C today.. sad and yes short leavers should help with the rotation as I am maxed out at the moment.

I think I probably will go matte for the Inner Dash Panels and the Meter Panels (diffusers). The next question is what should I do about the front wheel well panels namely:
  1. Front Cowl Cover (top of wheel well)
  2. Under Inner Front Cowlings (middle side pieces)
  3. V Panel (bottom piece that joins the belly pan fairings)
I am thinking these should be matte, but they might be easier to clean if gloss, but then more easily damaged... the Front Cow Cover and Under Inner Front Cowlings are a gloss plastic as standard while the V panel at the bottom is kind of matte.

What do we think they should be? The V Panel matte and the upper wheel well panel gloss or all matte?

Caveat emptor with MotoComposites Hayabusa family.

At each query, request, or questioning of an issue, they become more terse and add barriers to business. For example: First, no wire transfers, credit card or PayPal only; then recommend PayPal; then PayPal only. For international payments, that will attract an extra ~400 in fees and exchange rate slippage for a 6k order. Their 'recommend PayPal' rationale is that it has better seller dispute protections and less for the buyer. On order day, after all of the work done here in the Sequestering Carbon thread, it becomes 'PayPal only'. They know we have gone to the effort of linking a US credit card to our international settlement system. When the moving goal posts are challenged, they cut off all communication.

My guess is that they are screening for compliant, low-expectation clients, or potentially they have the wrong person client-facing.

Either way, this is my pre-sales service rating for MotoComposites so far when compared with a large number and wide variety of suppliers and partners we have enjoyed over 10 years in business.

0-5 (5 being best):
Professionalism: 3.5
Timely responses: 3.5
Consistency: 2
Customer-centric approach: 0.5
Proactivity: 0.5
Empathy: 0
Problem-solving: 0
Adaptability: 0
Personalization: 0

Note that pre-sales service is typically 2x - 1.5x better than after-sales service.

This behavior caught my attention, to say the least, so here is a bit more info on the MotoComposites products.

It looks like they do not design or manufacture their products and are resellers for mainland Chinese producers like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006440652105.html. and this AKOSO Carbon Fiber Official Store - Amazing products with exclusive discounts on AliExpress They don't state this specifically, can anyone verify that? This would explain their long out-of-stock lead times.

Most of the products are made in resin molds rather than CNC metal molds.

Their matte finish is not a proper clear coat with matte finishing; instead, it looks like a light pre-coat. "Matte will show the slightest imperfection in the finished part, has a very light painted finish." "Matte parts are also slightly lighter than glossy due to the lack of a clear coat finish."

I have dodged a bullet here, no doubt.

Back to the drawing board on the carbon bodywork Busa mission. Thank you to all of the hive mind help on this so far.

A timely reminder: when in doubt, speak out.

I hope that is of use.

And cheaper than the two Motocomposite pieces; Inner Dash Panel and Meter Panel. If I go gloss that is a great plan. Though you can see how gloss can be very in your face at that location...

I have the Magical Racing front fender and type 4 mirrors and might even consider using them for the Belly Pans although they are very much designed around the factory exhaust (I am running the R's Gear full Ti system) and while they may be more aero will certainly be heavier.

Here is a custom link most of the functional (not interested in decorative) MR carbon parts for the Gen 3. to add more append &p.pid=xxxxxxxx to the url.

I don't get the best deal through the business account with Webike for this manufacture but it is around 14-22% if anyone needs something.
From what I have been told the Magical Racing products are much higher quality, lighter and perfect fit when compared to the Chinese resellers like MotoComposities et al. Updated the URL to include their Under Tank Panels and removed the Instrument Surround as that is just decorative.

Essentially these:

I am asking if the MR belly pan will work with the R's Gear GT Ti system,

I suspect not but will see what they say. I'll also ask if they can supply the Inner Dash Panels and Under Tank Panels unpainted so that I can have them properly finished in matte.

A couple of interesting options one of the direct from China suppliers, AKOSO, offers is the rear component of the Rear Seat Cowl.

This means you could keep the factory highlights and but pad. A particularly nice look for the black and gold bikes potentially if you were happy to keep your factory Inner Side Vents, Rear Subframe Covers, and Undertail. . Keeping the factory Under Tank Panel with its grip texture could also then be on the cards.

I also noticed they offer a forged gloss finish on all of the components we have been discussing here. Not my cup of psilocybin chai latte but there you go...

So the Magical Racing lead on Gen 3 components is 6 month at the moment. Their belly pan needs heat shielding all over or you need to ceramic coat the exhaust also the left side needs to be cut is you are running the R's Gear GT Spec exhaust to clear the mid pipe. They are still lighter and better fit wise than the Chinese resellers like MotoComposities. This is the latest from MotorFix. Those guys are kicking ass.

It would be nice to know if they sell just the colored part in between the one you showed and the black part with the Kanji of the solo seat
