Shave and Form your own Custom seat...

Actually the reasoning for it is Tobin. I had a pair of Tobin Seats and I loved the lower seating position. I found it to really give me more of nestled down in it feel than before and removed significant weight off my wrists. BUT, the Tobin was to restrictive for me, I couldn't handle being so forward all the time without a choice and the rear lip on the Tobin seat was pushing me too far forward. I am plenty tall for stock seat height, it was just the repositioning for me that was desired. There is still plenty of foam for all day comfort, I can still move around a bit, and the Scooped out middle front area for my junk put a real smile on my face... You all need to do this, and Tobin needs to offer it as an option... Nicely Carved "Nut Cups" in the seats

Wonderfully comfortable...

SO WTF am I to do? So I said to myself, "Self, why not carve your own damn seat?" Well part of the whole more time than money thing, I stoped on the way home, picked up an electric Turkey carving knife, a couple of 3-m Sanding "Sponges", and rough wood RASP. Then when I got home I took a piece of Aluminum foil and laid it over the stock seat while on the bike, got a decent "ASS PRINT" in the foil, so I knew about what I was after, then started pulling staples...

So far so good, but I do need to have it professionally covered. I'm thinking Eel Skin... Or maybe umm... Beaver...

Not a replacement for the look of the Tobin seats, but I'm comfortable...

Over all it was really damn simple to form the foam, and get it level, even and smooth. But having it professionally finished I think is going to be a must.

I just wanted some feedback to make sure it didn't look too fuggin weird, it's much more of a saddle shape than I had intended... "YEEHAW"

I see the difference now.
Now that you put them side by side, it looks like crap!

J/K!

I think it looks good. Just from the pics you posted it looks like your seat follows the lines of the bike more. (The curve looks like it matches the curve in the tail section at the back of your pic.) So, you get a thumbs up from me bro,

However I still don't see those "nut cups" you mentioned. You must not have had to cut out very much. Almost feel bad for ya. hehe

Oh damn that's funny... I didn't really want my uh... "Parcel Shelf" to be visible to the eye, so the fact that the vinyl didn't conform to that relief scoop was a bonus...

I'm tellin ya, you gotta try the "Pill Box" Cut... Hollow that mutha out, then roll forward into a tuck.... AH, Sweet relief...

Damn good thing cause I got ahead of myself and as you can see chopped the hell outta your seat...

I was thinking it might fit you just about perfectly...

Outstanding... And hey they look good too...

Glad to hear it...

Hey Rev, I curious to know how it compares on the long rides. I need to do something to mine. My skinny butt just aches after a couple hundred miles.

Walk through  Need more leg room? Screw lowering your ride, just cut that 4" thick seat down a couple of inches...

Or, you just want a better position?  Do it yourself...

I'll let you know how it comes out. I've done some reading...  I think I got it...

Some more tips here at sargent cycle

One more Sargent link on seat comfort.
??  Why does nobody use leather for the seat?

In my case the bike is very very rarely out in the rain.

I would think it would just fell more comfortable.

Thanks for your input in advance
Been Thinking about it Bro... I'll prolly have the seat recovered in Black leather...

I used neoprene on my last bike. it was comfortable, you don't slide on it, it stretches and it is waterpoof. there are a few places that you can actually buy neoprene really cheap at online. Just a thought

I think the Gel Seats are covered in Neoprene... Not a bad idea...

I'm going to check around the local shops and see who CAN redo it, then I'll prolly see what kinda materials they have on hand... Hopefully keep it simple, but professional...

I'll probably add an extra layer of either High density or memory foam to the seat though, just a 1/2' or less... except for the uh.... Relief cut in the middle...

I ran across these people at plant city poser night. They had some nice work on show. It was all on cruisers but she said she has experience with busas as well.

yea I have heard anout people adding memory foam to it. here is a sight that you can buy cheap neoprene and also memory foam mattresspads all from one site. I didnt see any small pieces of memory foam on this site but you can buy the neoprene by the foot.

Nice job Rev, nothing like steppn to the plate and do'n it yourself .

I tried doing the Tobin seat mod a few year ago with one problem, I was not able to get the stock material (skin)to conform (lay down)to the foam using the one piece stock material, because of the elevation of the rear hump . My jerry rig Tobin seat was cool for a min but I finally broke down and bought one from him. I think it might cost you just as much trying to find someone to cover it than buying from Tobin. Stitchrz guyz dont come cheap. Dayum ,I wish I had an industrial sewn machine:laugh: .
Post the final result of your seat Playa.

Anyone have any luck on locating a Foam Dist that carries  "Super Cell Atomic foam" ?
I think this is what I'm going to use when I attempt the Tobin seat mod later on this winter.

Holla if ya find out anything

Ah yeah, Still comfy.

But as I think I mentioned, I cut out a little TOO MUCH. Left myself very little leg room, so take your time, make incrimental cuts, and buy thee an electric carving knife. It make all the difference.
