Didn't vote. IMO, the time to buy is when you find what you want since no matter when you buy you'll be able to find a better deal 31 days later on something more robust than what you've bought.
How to buy a new system:
1) Educate yourself on available technology/features and costs.
2) Determine what you need.
3) Determine what you want.
4) Determine if you'll settle for what you need or splurge for what you want.
5) Look for systems that meet # 4 above and find the best deal in terms of Brand reputation and warranty.
Best of luck!
PS: Micro Center has a lot of good equipment at reasonable prices. If you have a local Micro Center store, it's a great place to see a good selection of systems - MUCH better than Best Buy type places. About six months ago I got a good deal on a laptop for a budget system - $400 + $30 for an extra 1 GB of RAM. No complaints yet - except that it's running VISTA.
I have one that is several years old and has worked flawlessly. I have a Sony TV that has also.
I looked at the Toshiba's, HP and a few others. Then..BAM..this one jumped out at me. "Do you have any in stock?" One. "I'll take it." Had $200.00 off also.
