Should Tookie die?

side note --this board rocks--glad to see so many are able to state opinions in a civil manner!
first and foremost....you are right on the mark here.  Couldn't agree more.

.--i do believe that btw--nobody has the right to kill another human for any reason-
NO reason?  NONE at all?
why do we let them have phone calls or letters then?
im totaly not flammin you i was just currious-
Another area that I agree with 100%.  Jail should be where you spend a lot of time contemplating what you did.
NO TV.
NO PHONE.
NO PRIVELIGES WHATSOEVER.
All the bleeding hearts out there have made jail time nothing more than a freakin' vacation.

One of the largest problems in law enforcement now...especially this time of year, is keeping criminals from re-offending just to GET BACK IN.

Prison needs to be a place that NO ONE wants to go to.  EVER.

We are not nearly tough enough on criminals in this country.  I firmly believe in capitol punishment.
i dont think that u have to take tv's ,phones. etc away. people when they get out have to wanna stay out. look at me i've been out for almost 5 years now. i told myself that i like being free

That is great. I am happy the system worked for you....

But you did say how jail/prison was a "cake walk".

It shouldnt be. It should be absolutley the worst time of your life. Tough as hell. Uncomfortable as can be.

never said it was a cake walk might have been someone else. been places and seen things that an average person couldnt believe. it wasnt a cake walk but made the most of it since i can adapt to any situation

do you think your background made you a little numb or conditioned to the whole killing thing? do you think that maybe it has desensitized you?
Actually if anything I think it has made me more sensitive and compassionate toward people being brutalized by those in power or having the means at the time to inflict pain and suffering just for their own selfish desires or entertainment. In fact it bothers me more today after 30 years of seeing this around the World. But meeting people like General Juba of Liberia who eats the heart of his victims and serves the rest of the body to his troops gets no sentiment from me. Killing him would do the World (or at least hundreds of his people) a lot of good. This guy lives to Kill and Torture other people ( not like putting a womans pantys over their head and making them stand in front of a woman naked), and there are hundreds of guys like him in the World.

Too bad, but I am glad I am like I am, and you are like you are. Just maybe we counterbalance each other

He should have been executed a long time ago. I am anti the death penalty for a few different reasons, but it is the law, and he has been convicted. No point in delaying the inevitable. This individual has caused so much pain and suffering, both directly and as a result of the gang he founded, that it makes no difference what stories or whatever he has written here lately, he's gotta go. The time has come for him to pay the piper, and it's nobody's fault but his.
I think the death penalty is wrong because it is illogical to punish a person for doing something by doing to them the very thing they are being punished for doing. If killing is justifiable in certain instances, then all that needs be proven is the justifiability in the KILLER'S mind. If killing is wrong, then it is wrong and can never be justified. Secondly, the death penalty is obviously ineffective as a deterrent. Even in states where it is in effect, the murder rate does not decline significantly.
If we are gonna have a death penalty, it should be swift, painful and public. Then it would serve as a deterrent, and it would cost a whole lot less.

I would vote against it, simply because it makes no sense to me, but I understand why people want it.

I don't look at it as a deterrent, it's a penality you pay for murdering someone. Deterrent - PHOOIE- that's not why your executing a person, it's because of what they themselves have done. Now, that said, it would take a lot of evidence for me to give a sentence of death to someone. And that would have to include visual (camara or 3 people) evidence that could leave NO DOUBT of the guilt. Anything less and a term sentence only, and that may be doubtfull except for the actual secondary charge if there was one.

Death is really final so it would be difficult for me to render a sentence of death unless the crime was absolutely proven and in a certaint manor committed.

It's like the osshole that killed John Lennon. I would kill him for free. A guy like that who was caught red handed should have been shot on the spot.

The ACLU is not the problem, the politicians that would turn this country into a friggin police state are. If people didn't abuse their power in ther first place, organizations like the ACLU wouldn't exist.....
While I agree that both sides have their extremists, the ACLU has gone overboard on every issue they take on. For example, it's MERRY CHRISTMAS dammit, not happy holidays ACLU...
