I think I am going to try to go for either the Dec launch or the Aug 08 launch... that thing has got to rock your world when it lifts off....

Fantastic idea. Prepare your world for some definite rocking. Thrust is an amazing thing.

Just make sure you've lined up a few other things to do while you're there, so when the launch gets scrubbed for the twenty sixth time you haven't driven all that way and wasted your vacation for nothing.

Never saw a shuttle launch, but did see the last Skylab crew go up on a Saturn 1B, Biggest launch until the Shuttle.  Also a titan 3C was a very fast launch.
If you get the chance do it  

I've watched a Peacekeeper and Titan IV from Vandenburg. The Titan IV was a night launch....purposely detonated 37 seconds in due to a pump pressure loss. Red sky at night that shook the neighbors up a bit
