So sad but true...

Well damn... I wish I had found and read this forum and taken it serious BEFORE I took the leap Thursday that I took. First I would like to say hello, My name is Mike and I live just north of Atlanta GA. I have always wanted a street bike and when I first saw the Hayabusa I fell in love with it. When the 2006 limited was shown I just had to have one of those pearl white beauties! Well Last weekend I went and looked at them and with the helmet and all the state and shop fees I came close to walking out with one for $12,600 total. Well, I talked myself out of it and then found one online for sale...with ONLY 133 miles on it, for $10,300!!! Well silly me goes and pays cash for it and ran to pick it up. I get it home at 2am and take my first ride on a motorcycle...a BUSA at that. Well that middle of the night ride went great..no flaws. Then morning came and once again I took it out for another spin... no flaws. I come in so I can get the insurance on it and then went to get a tag. After I got the tag I said what the hell and went to try for my learners permit. Bingo! I passed the test and got that. Well I get home and think WOW! I can take my nice new bike out LEAGALLY for a ride. Leave my neighborhood and come to a stop sign, go to take a right turn, stalled it and then BOOM!! I dropped it! Well the past few days have gone the same damn way! I have signed up for the Motorcycle riders class but that's not till June 19th. I am going to attempt to get on May 8th but that's only if someone doesn't show will I be able to. I have a few friends that's gonna come over and try this weekend to teach me how to *turn* properly on a street bike. Well... that's my story, I hope the pics will deter any newbies like myself that thought they were bad enough to handle the power of the busa before knowing what they were truly doing...

Welcome on board, Mike............. sorry to hear about your little mishap......

But unfortunately it's the mistake all make... when it comes to their frist bike.... at some point It's going to stall on them... and as you have experienced....... over It will go....

Expensive lesson to learn with a busa...........

Anyway, my friend............. you've picked the right place to come....

Welcome Mike, I'm sure most of us can say that we've dropped our first bike. Get some frame sliders ASAP. Might save ya a few bucks next time.

These bikes are bad boys, no doubt about it, whether going fast or slow.

Find an open parking lot on the weekend, grab/buy/substitute some traffic cones, set up a slow figure 8 course and practice maneuvering at slow speeds in both directions. Set one loop wide, the other tight. It's the fastest (& best imho) to learn how to balance with confidence, the weight of your bike. You'll probably find out that you're more comfortable with one direction, or leaning to the left or right. That would be your dominate side. You'll need more practice on the other side to build your confidence while practicing throttle control.

Last year at Rolling Thunder, I was right next to a guy riding a brand new HD V-Rod. Older guy, looked like he'd been riding a while. Anyway, when the formation came to a long pause (Which happens a lot at RT), the poor ole guy got so excited for a picture of the bikes behind him that during the pause, he hops off the bike, dismounting from the Right, standing right next to the bike he actually holds the grip for a second as he's looking back, lets go to reach in his shirt pocket to grab his camera... the bike stays balance for about a second, and over she goes on her left hand side

. Imagine doing that in front of a few hundred thousand people.

Cheers

So sorry to hear you dropped it, but believe me, even the most experienced may drop a Busa...don't beat yourself up, get yourself in that MSF class, maybe find a cheaper bike to play around on, even a dirt bike...

It's a beautiful Busa, BTW...don't beat yourself up...just go have some fun and take your time...

If it makes you feel any better, I dropped my Busa 3 times before I realized it needs to be lowered...it happens...live and learn right?

Well thank you for your Welcomes!
Yeah I know, I am trying not to beat myself up to bad.
Kinda put a little fear in ya though and makes you not want to ride in fear of hurting it more. The right side fairing is $515 but is not yet available. I will be replacing most of the stuff with chrome once I learn to ride it well. I have not been crazy enough to venture out into heavy traffic with it yet, or will i till I get better. I have a neighborhood full of cul da sacs. 1st time was at a stop sign, second was just me stopped trying to start off into a right turn, 3rd the wheel dropped off my driveway when i was pushing it to turn it around. The worst was I was turning around in a cul-da-sac, it started to rain and my thought was oh NOI have to get to the house. My hand hit the throttle, my other hand didn't grab the clutch, I hit the curb and would have made a skate boarder proud with that curb rail... The sound of that jet engine revving under me when I'm not wanting it to kinda startles me... I just need to remember to grab that damn clutch quick. I have gotten good and breaking (using both front and rear at the same time) I have practiced a lot of stopping. I figure now that she is all scratched up might as well keep jumping back on trying to learn... I'll get the hang soon enough... lucky I have not yet *knock on wood* gotten a single scratch on me

I have been trying to keep my eye open for a good parking lot I can go practice in. I'm a hard head... But I'll keep jumping on that beast till i tame it...or it tames me!

Welcome! You made a great bike AND color selection!! I'm sorry to see your baby beat up but don't let it deter you from riding. Keep climbing back on and handle your business! She'll be clean and ready for the show soon enough. Just get your skillz up to par so you can ride w/ confidence and show your girl off!

If you need it, I have a stock can just sitting here from a 05 busa. Its in pretty good shape and I can send it to you to hide that scratched can. Let me know, just pay for S&H.

Thank you to you ALL!!
Makes me feel a little better to read that it happens...
Still makes me sick to see it but I will keep being careful, and just keep the speed low and safe. I just have to learn to trust the bike and lean with those turns. Oh yeah and remember to grab that clutch if I hit that throttle!! I need to get me a good riding suit..any suggestions? Also, Can one order the Decal alone or do you HAVE to buy the whole fairing? Any good sites to buy parts (custom) from? I see ebay has a lot but are they any good? I can tell by reading every ones post this is a great community...I'm glad I ran across y'all.

Welcome on Board Mike...

Sorry to hear about your bit of bad luck...But soldier on...

Youkai's post is typical of the calibre of the folk here...

Welcome to the org! Congratulations on the new bike! Yeah, scratching anything that pretty must really hurt.

That MSF class will help. But, as has been previously posted, practice in a parking lot at low speed. Get comfortable at a slow speed. Don't try to go fast. Try to go slow. Get a feel for your new bike before you ride too fast. You need to learn how to turn and stop the bike before you ride it too hard.

This is the place for the answers to your questions. Good luck with the bike.

Sorry about the mishap, but it looks like a right lower fairing will get you fixed up. I don't really recommend your buddies teaching you.. and on your bike.... careful. They could easily teach you bad habits or cause you to rash the left side. Wait for that course, show up on standby and cross your fingers.

You are a faster learner than most. Multiple pictures in your first post!

Welcome aboard and shake off the mishap. It's not that big of a deal. Do the kickstand mod or your'e gonna drop it again.

Busa was my first street bike also. Like said above, it's an expensive bike to learn on but fix your mistakes at slow speeds so you don't kill yourself.

Oh....ya need to get some spinning balls

I already donated .... I'm just waiting till I grow my balls I guess...lol:)
I'm off to find out about the kickstand mod now...

Yeah thanks! I am trying to think positive...
Not many are willing to try and jump on one of the fastest production street bikes made and teach theirselves how to ride... Once I get this bad boy tame I'll be able to say I taught myself on the fastest production (well except for the kawasaki 1400 which might beat it) bike there is

...lol
