So who\'s in first?

i don't understand this board and the mentality of MOST of its members.
Everyone's trying to be NUMBER 1. So who is it?
most of the posts are about simple stuff like my bike is better than yours or my preferences in oil, chain lube, spark plugs, gasoline, tires, etc. are better than yours.
Some people offer up suggestions and are flamed or semi-flamed as a result. Instead of someone being even a little grateful that the information was offered to begin with.
Seems the majority here are all trying to be some kind of Legend in their OWN Mind.
It's a pathetic way to spend in cyberspace, playing some false role, that you can't possibly match in REALITY.
Many of you start flaming and then turn around and say i wasn't trying to upset you Or solicite a response just trying to help....blah blah.
What I really don't get is all these "races" you guys are having on the street. How do you KNOW BEYOND a REASONABLE DOUBT that whomever you are engaged with is really trying to go as fast as you are for what seems to be Bragging Rights being the only reward?
None of you that's who.
Now if you were to go to a facility and pay your money and get out there in an environment which caters to balls to the wall, you might better realize that in the long run WE ARE ALL better off as a result.
Then the Government wouldn't have to feel motivated to restrict sportbikes OR worse all bikes from public highways, due to your indulgence of high end triple digit speeds. Some which WILL lead to a phenominal accident, certainly if attempted often enough. Studies have proven excess speed on public roads KILLS. Sometimes it even kills innocent people who were not violating the law.
the racetrack is the only place to really learn your limits, regardless of your experience. You get your jollies and avoid speeding tickets and possible jail time. In the long run it's cheaper than speeing tickets and bond.
Best of all you actually can say without doubt, YOU REALLY raced someone through the twisties.
It's not the same as flying around like an absolute idiot on the street.
How about this you are engaged with your "buddies" on your favorite road or set of curves, and it is usually not travelled by many and you're giving it your best and feeling like you're still only riding at 6-7 tenths pace and here's a truck crossing the yellow just a smidge,....... do you really think you could avoid the collision?
Some dude on this board proclaimed to have an accident with a car at 35mph! if i'm not mistaken he mentioned he had three travel lanes open to him and as the car crossed he hit the horn (instead of the brake) and anticipated the car to stop as a result of the horn.
Well if the car pulled out to begin with they hadn't seen the bike and the horn likley didn't help matters because now the individual has to locate the source. There was a mention of the individual being blue haired, does that mean old or Punk rock?
Either way a losing cause -old doesn't have the hearing or vision as once
punk rock- probably listening to blaring music and still won't hear the m/c's horn.
In my opinion based on what was presented a bad decision was made and More skill should have been needed.
With sportbikes being such hot performance "bargains" seems everyone Wants one. Even if they aren't ready for one, and the training that should be sought, to SAFELY operate one RARELY is, possibly due to ego or inconvenience.
Which in the grand scheme of things leads to accidents and higher insurance premiums.
It's not so much the cost to repair a sportbike BUT the frequency of repair for sportbikes and motorcycles as a whole that makes the premiums high. Why else would insurance companies offer discounts for MSF and advanced MSF and other schools and AMA members? They know these individuals carry less risk to the company.
I believe there is a time and a place for everything.
Now back to accident avoidance HOW MANY of you could have avoided the ambulance at Road Atlanta today after drafting pass another rider? If you saw the On-Bike footage as opposed to the regular view ( both were shown during the live broadcast from the drafted bike) you wouldn't have seen the ambulance til the last possible second.
Mladlin didn't see the ambulance flag. Maybe due to his increased speed by virtue of the draft pass. I for one though he was a DEAD MAN. Then he barely missed it and got on the grass and didn't drop it! When he came up on the ambulance he was close to 180mph!
He eventually finished in 3rd after being 23rd as a result of his off track ride.
Think about that truck or van or car or other bike next time you're going for 1st while on the street.......it's not worth it.

Well John,

I'm probably more of a disinterested third party here than most. I like my 'Bus a ton but no way am I going to do any street racing! Although you come off a little like flaming the whole group, you do have a lot of good points and I agree that the track is the place for speed. I keep wondering when one of the crazies here is going to crash and all that will be left are small pieces. Hope it never happens! Well, I can't wait to take a riding school in September and learn from the real pros-not so much how to race as how to ride a bike with a much improved set of skills. Who really cares who's fastest on the streets? No amount of skill in the world will save us from a bad situation when reaction times are way too late and speed makes stuff like that much more probable. One thing that I liked about the 'Bus was that it seemed to be a great package as is from the dealer so I have no plans for go fast stuff. Just ride and learn and enjoy!

Notice the posting and had to add my 2cent.Well from the years of riding I found out that uninformed, untrained, and stupid drivers kill each other, happens in cars/trucks as much as it happens on a motorcycle.Speed kills if you have unsafe car/motorcycle,like bad brakes, tires, electrical systems.Unsafe driving condition due to weather, snow, rain, drunk driver,TSB"toxic sperm buildup"male ego.Yes I agree that racing should be done on a safe track only. You can not take stupid drivers off the street cause than your local/state government can not collect the taxes for the licence fees, registration fees, you get my drift.MONEY TALKS in our WORLD.Now the new theme is that it's for the saftey of our KIDS.Look out!!!Back to motorcycling well we might be the last of our kind due to the insurance company would like to see us go away and also the car companies would also like to see us go away.Enjoy the ride now cause we may be ban from the roadways someday.Like I said MONEY TALKS.See ya

Well John, I whole heartedly disagree with your statement that MOST of the people on this board are the ones with a superiority problem. I have been on this board for a while and from what I have seen when there is an arguement about whos bike is better, it is ALWAYS someone with a different kind of bike (zx11, CBR1100XX, ZX9, R1 etc) that has enough spare time on his hands to come to our board and pound his chest saying that his bike will kick our busa's ass. The last on was a post about how "CBR1100XX beats hayabusa" This little man apparently had a friend on an XX that raced a guy with a busa and beat him. OOOHHHHHHH lets go run to the busa boards and show them that the XX is faster than a busa OOOOOOHHHHHHHH. Big deal! All of the replies were posted stated something that everyone already knows, a good rider on a slower bike can beat a sorry rider on a faster bike. Some guy that has a name of a circle K fruit drink came on this board and stated how stupid we all were and that next year when the ZX12 comes out we are going to get our butts kicked. Another example of someone who goes to a board for a bike that he doesn't even have to tries and slam someone else.

I have yet to see someone with a busa come on this board and say "my busa is faster than yours". As for whos bike is #1? OURS IS. I'm not bragging, it is a proven fact. The busa is the fastest, quickest production bike made period! I'm not saying that I can beat any other bike out there because I am far from a professional drag racer or rider.
You also ask how beyond a reasonable doubt can we be sure that a person who is trying to race us is actually trying to go as fast as us. WHAT??????? What do you THINK a race is anyway? Do you think that people get into a race, run 1/2 throttle and then say at the end "yeah he beat me but if I had gone full throttle I would have won." I don't think so.
When you are on top everyone is shooting for you. Thats how improvements are made. Next year when the zx12 comes out we MIGHT not have the fastest bike out, but we will cross that bridge next year.

As for the rest of the content on this board, (mostly by busa owners) I have found it quite informative. We talk about everything from tank bras to pipes and share good or bad experiences about whatever product is out there. Thats what this board is for!

I also doubt that MOST of the busa riders are tearing down residential streets at triple digit speeds. Sure we are going to get on it now and then, whats the point of buying this bike if you didn't want to go fast. I would hope that we are all old enough and and experienced enough to pick a safe stretch of road to get on it.I would guess that by insurance rates alone no one under 25 could afford to insure this bike. If you want to find the people who are pulling wheelies between cars and riding like idiots on the street I would be willing to bet that the majority of those guys are riding smaller cc bikes and are alot younger age group. I know that there are exceptions too, but in general... I think your post has valid points, but it would be better posted on a 750 or 600 board.

well john, i guess you've said it all. firstly, let me say that i took the time to analyze your post minutely before i wrote this. so i've cooled down a bit since the initial read. as my buddy gixerbike1 put it, i had NO TIME TO REACT. as i stated in my original post, it was a "BLUE HAIRED OLD LADY" not to be confused with punk rock kid with blaring stereo. secondly, when she pulled out of the parking lot to my right, i was in the middle lane, she was looking away from me in the entirely opposite direction. i hit the horn, (and if you would have read the entire post and could remember it in it's entirety while typing your flame you would have noticed that i said brakes as well) and applied my brakes. after 20+ years of riding, it is my experience that when someone hears a horn, turns and sees a bike, the first thing they do is hit the brakes. i was hoping this would be the case as this was my only chance in under 3 seconds to escape this scary feeling and an impending collision. unfortunately, she never looked or heard the horn. her windows were up, a/c on, and maybe the local easy listening station playing. however, also stated previously, i ALMOST had it stopped but her forward momentum along with her turning left, shortened my stopping distance even more. her forward momentum did most of the damage to my bike. and as far as needing more skill, i think that it was my driving skill that saved more of my ass than anything else that day. if i hadn't been of the frame of mind to try and get the bike at a slight right angle, instead of flying over her trunk, (my front wheel hit the seam between her front and passenger drivers side doors) i would have hit her straight on and flew into the a arm support between the two doors. thereby causing serious head and or neck injuries possibly leading to death. as it stands, i got a sprained wrist, (from landing on it) and a bruised and cut left thigh (from hitting it on the windscreen as i flew over the handle bars) i think under the circumstances i did rather well. and quite frankly, whether you feel that is the case or not matters none whatsoever to me. i know what my skill level is, i have taken the msf advanced rider courses and i have the utmost respect for these bikes. now, before you post to this reply (which i'm sure you will) think about it before you flame someone whom you don't know or whose skill you have no comprehension of. now, as for the rest of your post, as others have said, you make some very valid and sensible remarks. just in the future, don't make one flame ruin what might otherwise be a wise and just post. well, enjoy everyone and have a blast.
(don't know why i even bothered to defend myself to this to begin with)
mike
p.s. check for my latest post for more info on my new yosh full system.

well john, on one section of your post i HAVE to reply, you don't know what the hell you are talking about.I was behind and to the right of HIABUSER as this "BLUE HAIRED OLD LADY" Pulled out in front of us.She pulled up to the intersection, looked in the other direction and proceeded across the intersection, NEVER looking our direction,HIABUSER hit his Horn AND His brakes and switched from the middle lane to the left lane trying to avoid this person. The rate of speed at which she came across the intersection would have caused an accident even if it were a car.I know this for a fact because i was there and i saw it all, and HIABUSER has 20 plus years of riding experience on the street. So don't even pressume you know enough that you can say this was lack or rider skill.People are killed all the time on bike's through the stupidity of people in cars. All the rider skill in the world won't bring you back to life after some dumb ass in a car pulls a lefty in front of you from a side road. He'll tell the police "i never even saw him" ,"he must of been flying".Now that i'm just a bit calmer i do agree with you on some of your points.I agree that serious racing should be done on the track. Most of us only blip along at high speed on safe roads that are far away and usually late when theres no traffic. We certainly done blitz along in neighborhoods and school zones. And your right about the ambulance there are a bunch of riders who wouldn't have been able to miss it, but there a bunch who could have.Next time you post, try to use a little more tact.We get a little upset when you blast us.Generaly when info is offered people read it,think about all the other suggestions and thank those people for thier advise,so not everyone on here flames people for giving suggestions to others.
Put mind in gear before setting fingers in motion

John, are you out of your F-----G mind? Get back on your mom's Harley and go! And if that pisses you off Tuff poop!:-( Brian

Aw, c'mon, all us Busa owners! We need to fess up to these types! I went 125 through that school zone the other day, but hey, only 1 kid couldn't get outta the way, and then there's the fact that this is really the highway's version of a Trial's bike...wheelies, then stoppies, wheelies, then stoppies. But what's really awesome is that I'm always "in first" to work because 200mph gets me there REAL fast!

BTW, anyone know what the emoticon is for tongue-(planted firmly)in-cheek?

John,
I'm just replying to the Road Atlanta incident with Mladin. The speed was 90-110mph not 180mph. There is a turn at the top of the hill that they slow down for, and then start downshifting coming into turn 10. I agree with most guys would have needed the meat wagon after this incident. It was the most stupid act I've ever seen. It is the corners workers choice to throw a red or yellow flag. A red was in order no doubt. The fans were screaming at them to throw the red. If the wall was 5 feet closer to the gravel pit, Mladin would have splatted all over it. Thanks for the fans that hopped the fence to assist him (against AMA rules). One other thing was the guy laying in the gravel pit in the wreck section of the track. I was there in corner 10 for both days of racing. Got some great pics of the racers with my son.
