i don't understand this board and the mentality of MOST of its members.
Everyone's trying to be NUMBER 1. So who is it?
most of the posts are about simple stuff like my bike is better than yours or my preferences in oil, chain lube, spark plugs, gasoline, tires, etc. are better than yours.
Some people offer up suggestions and are flamed or semi-flamed as a result. Instead of someone being even a little grateful that the information was offered to begin with.
Seems the majority here are all trying to be some kind of Legend in their OWN Mind.
It's a pathetic way to spend in cyberspace, playing some false role, that you can't possibly match in REALITY.
Many of you start flaming and then turn around and say i wasn't trying to upset you Or solicite a response just trying to help....blah blah.
What I really don't get is all these "races" you guys are having on the street. How do you KNOW BEYOND a REASONABLE DOUBT that whomever you are engaged with is really trying to go as fast as you are for what seems to be Bragging Rights being the only reward?
None of you that's who.
Now if you were to go to a facility and pay your money and get out there in an environment which caters to balls to the wall, you might better realize that in the long run WE ARE ALL better off as a result.
Then the Government wouldn't have to feel motivated to restrict sportbikes OR worse all bikes from public highways, due to your indulgence of high end triple digit speeds. Some which WILL lead to a phenominal accident, certainly if attempted often enough. Studies have proven excess speed on public roads KILLS. Sometimes it even kills innocent people who were not violating the law.
the racetrack is the only place to really learn your limits, regardless of your experience. You get your jollies and avoid speeding tickets and possible jail time. In the long run it's cheaper than speeing tickets and bond.
Best of all you actually can say without doubt, YOU REALLY raced someone through the twisties.
It's not the same as flying around like an absolute idiot on the street.
How about this you are engaged with your "buddies" on your favorite road or set of curves, and it is usually not travelled by many and you're giving it your best and feeling like you're still only riding at 6-7 tenths pace and here's a truck crossing the yellow just a smidge,....... do you really think you could avoid the collision?
Some dude on this board proclaimed to have an accident with a car at 35mph! if i'm not mistaken he mentioned he had three travel lanes open to him and as the car crossed he hit the horn (instead of the brake) and anticipated the car to stop as a result of the horn.
Well if the car pulled out to begin with they hadn't seen the bike and the horn likley didn't help matters because now the individual has to locate the source. There was a mention of the individual being blue haired, does that mean old or Punk rock?
Either way a losing cause -old doesn't have the hearing or vision as once
punk rock- probably listening to blaring music and still won't hear the m/c's horn.
In my opinion based on what was presented a bad decision was made and More skill should have been needed.
With sportbikes being such hot performance "bargains" seems everyone Wants one. Even if they aren't ready for one, and the training that should be sought, to SAFELY operate one RARELY is, possibly due to ego or inconvenience.
Which in the grand scheme of things leads to accidents and higher insurance premiums.
It's not so much the cost to repair a sportbike BUT the frequency of repair for sportbikes and motorcycles as a whole that makes the premiums high. Why else would insurance companies offer discounts for MSF and advanced MSF and other schools and AMA members? They know these individuals carry less risk to the company.
I believe there is a time and a place for everything.
Now back to accident avoidance HOW MANY of you could have avoided the ambulance at Road Atlanta today after drafting pass another rider? If you saw the On-Bike footage as opposed to the regular view ( both were shown during the live broadcast from the drafted bike) you wouldn't have seen the ambulance til the last possible second.
Mladlin didn't see the ambulance flag. Maybe due to his increased speed by virtue of the draft pass. I for one though he was a DEAD MAN. Then he barely missed it and got on the grass and didn't drop it! When he came up on the ambulance he was close to 180mph!
He eventually finished in 3rd after being 23rd as a result of his off track ride.
Think about that truck or van or car or other bike next time you're going for 1st while on the street.......it's not worth it.
