Speeding again?? ....lets be careful out there

Yeah, I saw that last night on the news. Looks like Dekalb is about to hit 'em again with those big fines and jail. I can't understand why those riders choose a place like Dekalb County to do this crap when there are areas on I-20 that are so desolate that they'd likely never see a car while doing their thing. Also, no choppers patroling those areas. The guys getting caught in Dekalb deserve what they get. You just don't ride like that "in town". :argue:

James Freeman, who works at Wow Motorcycles, said not all motorcycle riders were speeders.
Oh, here we go again with stupidity by the media and the general public. :cussing:

I can't tell you how many idiots start talking to me, thinking I do wheelies down the HOV lanes and race on public roads just because I own a sportbike.

Thanks for the heads up.  I don't go THAT fast but every now and again you just feel the need for speed.  Not anymore. :tounge:   I got nailed by helecopter a couple of months ago and got really lucky.  I just came down from a little burst of speed and that is when they saw me.  OOPS     Now I try to keep it within the acceptible limits.  Under 75mph

Quote"James Freeman, who works at Wow Motorcycles, said not all motorcycle riders were speeders" Quote.

I don't know of any rider with more than 500 miles under their belt that doesn't speed. ;)

Its more a degree of speeding. Heck even Harley riders speed. :tounge:

Hey Raider,

His actual quote on the Atlanta TV news was more along the lines of "Not all riders are speeders that get out there and wheelie and run 200."

Actually, this is what Freeman said...

"There are a couple of guys out here that do wheelies, that race, but it's only a handful of those. You got guys out here that buy these and respect life and just want to do it for the fun of it,â€￾
Bullet,
Thank sfor setting me straight. I was actually quoting from Narc's post. Was using it more to set up my post than for the factual information it may (or apparently may not ) have contained.

I got clocked the other day at 75 in a 55.....he let me go with a 'courtesy ticket'. Hey.....they ain't all buttheads.......

OK, here is my rant. I HATE that so much police effort is spent on speeders!!! I have no problems with Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and have family members that are LEOs. However, it drives me crazy that our tax dollars support, in some cases, the use of helicoptors, air planes, multiple police vehicles, etc. for SPEEDING! I agree that wreckless driving should be punished, like DUI, wheelies in the fast lane in traffic, etc. etc., but it is insane to dump our tax dollars into making sure everyone is going 75, BUT NOT 85. The laws are twisted too, reality is that the speed should be safe for the vehicle. Sometimes I see the biggest piece of junk cars/trucks going the speed limit, but with 1/2 flat tires, failing lights, etc. whereas a Busa, vette, etc. is designed to travel safely at higher rates of speed.

My ultimate peave is the "speed trap". I got nailed in Arizona going 70 in a 55 in the middle of NO WHERE!!! I mean the middle of the freakin' desert with nothing for miles around but catus and brush on perfect pavement in perfect weather on a downhill grade with the LEO was hiding behind some brush just waiting for the sucker that was not watching the speedo every second. I investigate the situation and find out that the police department in this small town exists almost entirely from the revenue of the evil speeders. This isn't right!!! They go looking for someone to speed to justify their own existance?!?

I think the roving patrol officers are a good idea, to watch for accidents, idiots, etc. I think their presence is enough to slow people down. But using airplanes and other sophisticated equipment is foolish from my perspective when we have murders, drug deals, rapes, etc. that could use that extra police efforts.

OK, enough, gotta go speed.

I'm with ya, Doc. It's unreal what it costs the taxpayers of Dekalb just to lift that chopper off. Figure in a few hours of patrol with it and they could never write enough tickets to bikers in a night to pay for the chopper alone, not counting salaries of pilots, chase cars/officers, etc.

I can't remember the last time I wrote a speeding ticket... :super:

No doubt, well, at least we didn't get picked off by CHiPs riding the Cali mountains last weekend...

Doc I agree with you 100%... We have the same problem here in Texas. You will have one traffic cop working the radar and radio who then signals the line of cop cars or motorcycle cops "the worst" to pull you over and write the ticket. There is no getting out of any ticket in this situation. This is a show of force and a money making scheme for the city...

It really is amazing that the public puts up with this. Actually, we do not have much of it in Vegas. I give the Vegas cops some slack. I have been stopped twice recently, both for 25+ over and got a warning both times. In each case, I was not in traffic and the police was driving. I can deal with these types of offenses. I just HATE the police in b-f egypt hiding behind a grain silo just looking for revenue to sustain their otherwise worthless existance....
