those things are huge! I was bit by a brown recluse a few years ago...glad I wasn't bit by one of those things!

dude...getting bit by a brown recluse is worse than by getting bit by one of these.

They say that those spiders do not have any venom in them however the bite hurts like hell, I can imagine... My friend emailed this pic to me today and thanks to him I have something else in this world to be afraid of....

Glad I didn't see any of those while I was over there! It would take my entire size 12 to squash that thing and that's not comfortable for me!

the brown recluse is deadly and yes it gave me some pain but I would think the pain from those camel things would suck! My arm was all swollen and going numb until I went to the doctor for it. I could see the fang marks for about 6 mos after I was bit.

you're very lucky you did not have an allergic reaction to the bite. That would have been most unfortunate.

hahaha, Bill... that stuff tastes like chicken!

man, those are some serious chimichangas...

I had Black Widows in my garage when I bought you house. But if those things moved in I would sell in a hurry.

Ya we just got a group back in from over there and they were telling me about those things (that is an abnormally large one) but they will chase you and you have to check everything before you put it on. They had to stay in tents for the 6 months they were over there.

They had the same things in Somalia - yes, they are "somewhat" venomous. Their bite is like a mosquito: the venom deadens the nerves. This way, they can chew a hollowed out area with their fangs and drop eggs inside. Later, the eggs hatch and the babies basically eat their way out of the living host.

Saw many lame camels because of the spiders. Are they as dangerous as a Recluse? No. Are they about 5x as fast and 20x as scary when seen for the first time? You Betcha!!!

FYI: we used to catch and starve them for a little while, then have pit fights between one spider and a couple of scorpions... The Spiders never lost (until we stomped em after the match).

YEAH, I had my share of encounters with these things "Wind Scorpians" or Camel Spiders while in the AOR for 6 months.
They are pretty wild, they really wont mess with you until you surprise one then it's game on. Believe me when I say these things are very Fast... I mean especially in sand. You really have to work to out run them. And they are territorial and like I said VERY aggressive if spooked. Had one in my shop one night, I thought I saw a Gerbil run behind a couple of boxes, I thought damn gotta get him out of here before the snakes show up... Sh!t, move them boxes and one of these things pivots and comes right at me... I back peddled like a keystone cop...

The only saving grace with these things is that they seemed to be particulary vulnerable to RAID. Spray just a little on them and they would die almost instantly. But I am allready wary of spiders and these bastards would mess with your head.

By all accounts they really are pretty non-venomous. However they have 4 yes 4 fangs, that open up and down and left to right. Each fang is about 5/8 inches (In a full Grown) and their bite generally sends the person to be treated for Shock.

Even worse though, were the smaller golf ball sized black ones. They had red mouth parts, were just all sort of anti-social and were much more likely to be found indoors. They were seriously aggressive. If youput your boot down neer one it would charge up to it and you could hear it bitting and chewing on your boot... Burly lil bastards....

And of course, you had scorpians, snakes, wild dogs, big assed ugly lizards (Saudi's Eat them), and any number of unidentified crawling/flying/hoping wierd sh!t... made things interesting... Then of course the occasional fence cutting bad guy with an AK...

Oh click here --> Bad Mutha

Apparantly the Camel Spider has the most powerful jaws in the world pound for pound...

Oh and a little tidbit regarding scorpians... Generally, the Bigger the safer. Great big ones... Bee sting... Lil Uns, frequently highly venomous...

And we complain about what we have here. I have seen some Brown Recluse bites and pound for pound they can inflict some of the most damage you've seen. Skin starts to die and patients can loose several inches of skin if the infected area isn't removed quickly. Those little things that go bump in the night!!!
