I've gone to a 38 rear sprocket. Haven't recorded a good run yet. Turbo might be a solution.

What's a TRE

That depends on what you mean by the phrase "I want to up the overall speed".... You want a bigger top end, You want a quicker bottom end, or Your looking for the best of both? How much wrench turning you looking to do? How much $$$ are you willing to spend?

A 43 t rear sprocket will be your cheapest mod to pick up some acceleration but you will lose some top end speed, about 15 mph.

(big coop @ Sep. 20 2007,16:34) It,s there just twist right hand all the way to throttle stop.
+1 If you up the gearing for top end you may not be happy with the power loss. Be careful.

With factory bike, you will not be able to pull a bigger sprocket anyway. You will need more power to up the top-speed in addition to sprockets.

Sprockets aren't going to help much because the problem is air resistance.

Can't ride in a vacuum, so you have to bump up your HP.

More HP to overcome the resistance.

I believe the only common mods to get over 200mph is either a Turbo or a big bore. Neither are cheap.

I bet you could do it cheap with a 50 shot of NOS, but obviously, that is not always on tap. You run out of NOS quick and than you are crap out of luck. Not to mention has the bottle preassure dwindles, so does the HP.

The first thing I would do is get rid of the bolt-ons and go to a full system, followed by a custom tune. You might be surprised at how much those two, things in conjunction w/your powercommander, can wake these bikes up.

I think you are right. The bike accelerates fast enough stock and you could put in some good gearing and it will pull wheelies all day long with just the throttle. (I loved feeling the front wheel come up under full acceleration with my 16/40 setup on a full exhaust system, PCII, and, filter.

For me, the only reason to go bigger is to get that top-speed MPH and it definetly feels different going 220 compared to 175...

Thats the first mods toward more hores power, and it takes more HP to go faster and the faster you go the more HP you have to have.

i had a bde gen 3 pipe with a power commander and a good tune ...made a nice difference but it wasn't like it was pulling super hard to 200. I found when i get to 170+ and want to dance over 200 i want to get there fast. Seconds seem like minutes to me at that speed and i like the pull my turbo delivers to get me there. I have helped other people with there setups and found the GPS mod for unrestricting a bike the most sound to work with. However , whether you use a tre or a modified gps you don't want your ecm deciding to pull fuel out of your system at 190. Have fun!
