(fasttoys1 @ Jul. 30 2007,19:48) Sounds to me like the starter clutch assy. It's been awhile since I had one out, '00 & '01s had this problem alot esp. when using a PcII. When you take the off the cover to pull the starter drive gears(which is quick and easy to do). You'll see a "ring" of sorts with a bunch of paws held in place by a circular spring. If the paws show signs of deformity on their sides they won't swing out and engage the starter. They stick or stay in the ring. Hence making the spinning sound. You can see if they are sticking sometimes with your finger or sm screwdriver. Retail on the assy. I think is around 140.00. What I have done, if this is the problem is,

1. remove the spring. Make sure you look it over 1st so you can put the paws back in correctly.

2. Take out the paws

3. with a fine file remove the burrs from the sides, don't file too much.

4. re install, checking that they ALL work freely.

5. re install in bike and try.

I've done this on a couple of busa to get them running til assy came in and to verify that was the problem. Worked for them and myself. 1st year I had the busa I was stuck in Laconia. I ran it for a month after that with no problems til I had time to mess with the cps.

just a thought, no cost to check, good luck.
