State trooper killed

You know when they find the person who was riding the bike, he will probably be charged with the death of the trooper.....not sure i agree with that, but it will probably happen.

I was on the job for 10-years and it's easy to get yourself into a situation like this. The adrenaline rush of a Busa at 140 is tame compared to the adrenaline rush of being behind the wheel of a police car pursing a vehicle or going to an emergency where someone desperately needs your help, lights and siren, trying to hear and talk on the radio, watching the road... etc. Your emotions can easily get away from you and what is later clearly seen as bad judgment seems normal when it's happening.

I've never run from the police... and this is one of the reasons why.

My condolences to his family. Life has changed for them forever. Strangely, one of the saddest days of their lives will also be remembered forever by the most incredible turnout of Police officers showing their respect for a fallen comrade. The funeral of a Police officer is one of the most amazing moments you could ever witness. My dad passed away recently and he was a retired Deputy Chief of Police. His funeral was lined with hundreds of uniformed Police officers showing their respect, an honor guard carrying his casket, Police escorts, bagpipes... a day my family will remember forever.

Sorry to digress

It is sad, yes. But the motorcyclist wasn't originally running from the cop, - he was just going in the opposite direction. He could have possibly been going only 15mph over the speed limit. That would be 90mph if its a 75mph highway. Still almost 100. Or, yeah, he could have been estimated at 100 by the trooper.

I have the suspicion that many times, the size of the bike's engine will elicit an inaccurate estimation of its speed. A ninja 250 at redline - going approximately 65 mph will sound a hell of a lot faster as it comes and goes by....than a busa in 5th at 130mph.

Sometimes, I actually upshift right after I get on the throttle to cut the sound a little...just in case a cop is getting gas or coffee nearby and gets a bee in his bonnet to chase me.

Yes, I said Bee in his Bonnet.

My Lincoln Navigator speedometer only goes up to 100. I have had it at 100 on the highway coming back from california, and it was about as fast as it was going to go. But frankly, it ran better at about 85. It didnt like being at 100. The handling was very unpredictable over 85 to my liking.

A lincoln navigator is basically a ford expedition.

No trooper should pursue in a vehicle like that...at speed in excess of 80mph. BAD judgment.

The motorcyclist that speeds by, more times than not causes NO accidents. A chase many more times than not WILL cause an accident.

Let the cyclist rip, and may the trooper RIP.

That is true. I went past a cop in 2nd gear, (on a road where the speed limit was 50, and I was doing 50), and he swung around and followed me all the way home.

Agreed.

RIP and condolences to the family. This is another case where the cop made a bad decision and it cost him his life. Because a motocycle was involved, the rider will probably get charged with murder if they find him and get put away for life. What about the cop being reponsible for his bad decision instead of blaming the rider for something he had no control over. There are other ways to catch them other than HSP.

Hope they don't find that motorcyclist........there won't be any mercy afforded him. That trooper made a poor decision. Just think about how far behind he already was by the time he turned around to pursue!! What do you think the trooper was doing speed-wise in trying to catch that biker? It's sad.
