Steering locked after theft attempt..

Hey guys!

Last week someone tried to steal my 06 and I haven’t even been on it yet. They busted the ignition with a screwdriver and a hammer(tools stolen from another storage unit). Luckily or not so luckily my steering was locked when they tried to take it, so now I’m dealing with no iginition(OEM on back order) and locked steering.

Anybody have experience with this issue? Any help is appreciated, I’ve called locksmiths and the dealer and got no help. If I can unlock the steering I can take it apart and get it ready for a new ignition when I get my hands on it.

Effin' thieves......

I'd love to get my hands on them for even a couple minutes.....
Clowns got into the underground garage of my apartment building. They didn’t even see the chain on the frame to a post, if they saw that they likely would have left it alone.

I winterized it the morning of that day too, battery out and fuel stabilizer in has a rotor alarm and a couple more chains now.

BTW....welcome to a fellow Canuck.....

Where are you located?

There is nothing that you can do now other than take the old switch out.
With the 2 bolts out, the shaft from the switch that slides into the hole in the steering neck of the frame, will just come out with the old switch.
I think(can't remember for sure) that the 2 switch bolts are safety torx(torx fitting with the pin in the center), so you may need a set if you don't have them(most autoparts stores have them).
Sorry that happened...welcome to the org

That’s what I was wondering about, didn’t know if I’d be able to take it out with the steering locked on it. Have a new OEM ignition on back order from the dealer so hopefully it’ll be here by spring time.

So just the two security bolts are keeping it there? I’d look at my bike but it’s tarped and zip tied lol

This is my 2003 Gsxr1000, the switch is the same as the Gen1 Hayabusa(and alot of Suzukis).
I already replaced the factory switch bolts with stainless steel socket head/allen head bolts, but these 2 bolts are are that holds the switch housing to the bottom side of the upper triple-clamp.
