I kind of walked into the BUSA addiction whithout relly knowing what was happening. I was looking to buy a gixxer 1000. Well sitting right next to thr gixxer was my new baby. I never really had an interest until a swung a leg over her to take a seat. I then realized how comfy she was. Just then I started asking questions. Once I found out she was on sale due to the lack of interest, I dropped a deposit and two days later had the check to buy. I feel stupid saying this cause there was no research invloved before the purchase. Now that I have had her out for a ride and all the research I have done on her now, I am so happy with the way it turned out.
Dear Duane
I found this thread while trying to find out the year and color of your 'Busa so I could make your avatar.
I, too, walked into a Suzuki dealer with absolutely no intention of buying a 'Busa. My mind was made up for an '08 CBR1000RR, but I wanted to see the GSXR1000 before making the purchase. I saw my blue 'Busa with its gold wheels and decided to throw a leg over it. It felt a lot more comfortable than the GSXR1000 and the '07 CBR1000RR. Then I got to thinking about how much I weigh (now a little north of 250 lbs.) and that someone might be crazy enough to ride two-up with me one day. The extra displacement should come in handy then, I thought. Then the bike's looks really started setting in on me. The 'Busa is a heck of a lot better looking in person than pictures show, especially for those of us who've never been up close and personal with a 'Busa.
I tried to talk the dealer down on price. I offered US$11,000 out the door and the dealer declined, so I walked out. I went over to the nearby Honda dealer and confirmed for myself that the 'Busa is a lot more comfortable than the '07 CBR1000RR. Then I went back to the Suzuki dealer and offered US$11,500 out the door. The dealer declined. His last offer was for US$11,999 plus tax. I went home, asked my pregnant wife for permission, and she reluctantly gave it to me. She said that we couldn't buy the bike that day because we didn't have any checks, after having recently run out. I said that we could finance the bike and pay it off when the first payment came due. Again, she reluctantly agreed and we went over to the dealership just fifteen minutes before closing time. I told the sales manager, husband to the girl who orders the bikes for the dealership, that we'd take it if he'd let it go for US$11,700 plus tax. He declined, saying that was their first Hayabusa of the year and they'd had in on the showroom floor only since Saturday (we bought it on a Monday). Then I gave in and told him we'd take it for $11,999 plus tax, and we did.
I hadn't ridden a bike in fourteen years. My dad bought me a brand new Ninja 600 back in '88, and I bought a new Nighthawk 750 back in '93, which I kept until '94. So I rode the new 'Busa around in the dealer's parking lot once before getting out on a crowded highway during rush hour. It was like riding a bike--once you learn, you never forget. I just about froze to death riding seven miles home with my shirt riding up and my drawers showing, but I made it and have fallen in love with the bike.
I dropped her today while trying to put her on a new Pit Bull forward-handle rear stand. Luckily for her and me, there was a water hose on the other side of her that helped pad the fall. I scuffed her right mirror just a little, put a very slight mark on the right faring that will easily come out with a touch of rubbing compound, and scuffed the right exhaust just a tiny bit. Overall, I consider us lucky. She looks so much better sitting upright on her rear stand than slumped over on her sidestand. I guess you could say that her "posture" is much more becoming when she's perched upon her rear stand.
For the time being I've conceded that putting her up on her rear stand is a two-person job, though I can get her off her rear stand by myself.
I see that you have an '07 blue 'Busa, but I'll wait for you to confirm that via private message before I make your avatar.
