Stock keys

I bought an 06 busa 3 weeks ago but it came with aftermarket keys in it. I called the dealer and they said some times they lose the keys. I asked the salesman why all of the bikes on the floor have aftermarket keys in them and he didn't know why. He offered to order me a blank key and I told him I wanted two keys already cut. I really want to know what they are doing with the original keys. I am might go up tommorrow and talk to them. I don't know how to get anyone to care enough to look into it. I talked to suzuki and they said it sounded fishy but there wasn't any thing they can do about it. Other than that all is going well and I have put more than a thousand miles on it. All I can say is this bike has ruined any other bike for me. The only thing I will trade it in on is a new one

That is one of the screwiest thing I have ever heard...

How do you know they aren't stock, out of curiosity? No Black plastic?

Hey congrats on your scoot, but yeah, somethign is fishy. Along with the keys, they should be giving you a small black tag that has a serial number on it so that you can have factory keys re-issued...

Something stinks in this - let us know what happens. BTW, as soon as you can, we like PICS!

be prepared for someone stealing your bike!!!

sounds like employees taking the keys. all they need to do is wait til someone buys the bike and go to his house. they have access to all the owners info

The keys look like keys you would buy at a key shack. As far as somebody stealing it that is what I am concerned about. I am going to go up and look and make sure i did see other bikes with aftermarket keys in them. But I don't know where to go from there because the dealer is not going to tell me if they are doing some thing illegal. Any ideas? I thought of calling the bbb.

Yeah But I would rather just make a copy of the stock key at the local locksmiths, then return the OEM Keys to their package... This makes no sense...

the thing that doesnt make sense is if they were planning on stealing them at a later date then why wouldnt they make the copies of the original keys beforehand and put the originals back in the bike so it wouldnt look so fishy???

looks like rev posted while i was posting

That's odd. If there was a theft ring going on they would keep the copy, not the original. No sense it raising suspicion by doing it the other way.

I would still demand 2 original Suzuki keys along with the little knock out tab with a number stamped on it.
Sounds picky but if there are two bikes I'm interested in, the one with the original OEM keys, owners manual, air gauge ect. will always win out.

Hell, a single original key blank for one of my Honda CXTs typically sells for $70 to $100 bucks on ebay!

I agree why would you draw attention to yourself. When I asked the salesman how they made copies if they lost the keys his answer was "I don't know".
copies can be made off the vin number but you have to have authorization to do that....such as being the dealer or a customer who has verifiable documentation proving they own the bike

I'll be curious to see how this one turns out. Doesn't sound like a very good dealership to me.

Did yo uhappen to get your rear cowl as well? It replaces the rear seat when in place? Should come in a box.

I did get the rear cowl but i had to ask. I didn't pick it up the first day because I thought it was a option. They told me "oh sorry we forgot about it". This is one of the largest dealers in ohio located near akron. I am disgusted with this dealer and will never buy from them again.

Well Forgetting abou trear cowls happens alot!!! No foolin, Lots of multi-line dealers do not even realize that their brand new suzuki sportbikes Ship with a cowl. Every other brand makes you buy the cowl seperatly, and the salesmen never get to see the bikes as they are getting un-boxed (usually). So forgetting a cowl isn't an indication of shady activity, it's real easy to do.

Heck I had to go Grab a Guy his free cowl personally because a salesman sent him to the parts counter to ORDER ONE...

They just don't allways know.

The key thing... That makes no sense, and I would go back and find out what the deal is.

Crooks are stupid. If they're jacking bikes by keeping the stock keys they maybe brand new and didn't think it through. They could have been doing it for years and never got questioned. Dunno. Go find out!

OK I spoke to the salesmanager here and what he said really surprised me. Dealers do loose ALOT of keys... salesmen grab them for a demo, blah blah blah....

Long story short, I guess it really isn't THAT uncommon. Straight from the horses mouth, it happens.

Who'd have guessed it.

I suppose it is possible. All of the bikes on the floor had keys in them and I believe they were aftermarket. I need to go back and make sure my memory isn't playing tricks on me. This is the only dealer I have been to that leaves the keys in the bikes. If most of the bikes have stock keys them I will believe them and only expect new stock keys. If they are all aftermarket keys I want to know what is going on.

Hmm.. sounds a little odd. I have a friend who is a sales manager at a local Suzuki shop. When I hear back from him, I will follow up.
Meanwhile, stay safe
