i had mine set up today by washington cycle works in new jersey. they have an awesome little shop there which is all about sport bikes and performance. its big with the nyc crowd even though its not that close to it. im getting used to the set up probably because ive ridden on incorrect suspension set ups for some time. whether or not its perfect i dont know but i do know that instantly i could feel that it steered much lighter and didnt bounce so much. for people like me that just cant quite grasp the whole suspension set up on your own go spend the 40-50 bucks and let someone who knows what they are doing do it

after I had mine setup at a track day, the front breaks bit TWICE as good! it's awesome getting things dialed in. literally

JINKSTER has a comprehensive and complete setup guide somewhere else on this site, and SPORT RIDER.com has some basic better configurations numbers

Glad you got yours tight and right. Enjoy!

I just got a call 2min ago from traxx dynamics that my rear shock is finally done (3 weeks) they revalved/rebuilt/re sprung a new 08' to compensate for my now stretched rear 6 over and my weight 290...($240)

next i have to have the forks done $680

cant wait to get it back so i can ride!!

i believe suspension is one of the most important mods

Just curious to what they put your settings too , I know that they will not apply to other peoples weights styles , but am wondering what direction they went in

Aren't the Busa's set up stock for like a 165 - 185 lbs. person ? Somone once referred to their bike feeling like a speed boat, and that's EXACTLY what mine feels like. How heavy can you be, and still use the stock suspension ? I heard under 210 ? And that leaves me out 235 lbs. !!

yup. you gotta go with a heavier front spring if you weigh more, or you'll never hit the proper sag rate. Even the GSXR's are sprung for the Dani Pedrosa types.

But setting up suspension isn't that difficult (baseline settings). Jinkster's thread is pretty close to what track side support guys do. But I also learned some stuff from Race TEch and Catalyst Reaction to tweak my compression and rebound settings for certain tracks.

I still wanna get a trick Elka, Penske, or Ohlins shock with adjustable ride height settings so I can change it for particular tire sizes, particularly slicks. Also, with Elkas, Penske's, or Ohlins, you can adjust sag without the old "hammer and screwdriver" method.

I hope I'm not thread jacking.....But can you get close to where you should be, with the stock springs, and shock weighing 235 lbs.

Actually the new Gixxers are well sprung at 1.05. I weigh 195 pounds and I actually had to back the front springs off a turn from the factory settings.

Your busa with a linear rate of .85 is a different story. It's easy to figure out just how far off the springs are. Simply mount that puppy wearing your gear, have one friend balance the bike while another measures the total sag from fully extended and if you have more than 35mm of sag, you could use fresh springs.

He who weighs in at 235 lbs. I'd guess will be into the low to mid forties?

After re-springing and gold valving my fork, I had Ron do my set-up, too.

Makes a big difference.  They spent almost an hour measuring with me on and off the bike and set the preload and damping. Most of the time was spent adjusting the collar on the rear shock spring, what a p.i.t.a.

There aren't many shops with guys knowledgeable enough to do this and for the money this is worth it.

I reworked the forks with new 1.10 springs yesterday ,,, easy job but you need to cut the stock spacer to 83mm,,,feels like a new bike,,,had no idea it would help that much.

ARe you sure? My Gixx was undersprung @ .95 kg and I had to uggrade to the 1.00kg spring. Do the new 07's and 08's have heavier spring rate?

The 03-04 Gixxer 1K's had .85 springs, 05-06 had .95 and the 07-08 have 1.05 springs.

I had my forks done by Traxx Dynamics over winter. The difference is outstanding. And now with the rear set at Bash with the help(okay he did it all) of BusaWhipped, the feel on the road is much improved. Even with just the forks done it was night and day. Suspension mod money is money well spent.
