Suzuki will NOT pay for engine repair due to Cam Chain Tensioner failu

Greetings,
American Suzuki will NOT pay to repair my engine. The engine failed due to the cam chain tensioner spring breaking, and the pistons rammed into the valves creating a large mess. The refused to fix the COMPLETE problem, by stating that they will replace ONLY the head, and not pay for the labor to do it. leaving my with a 3 grand bill. I thought all you guys would like to know this.
Anyone that has had cam chain tensioner problems, please e-mail me, I would like to prepare a statement for Suzuki to review, if nothing is resolved, on to court we go.(The mech. even thinks I should goto court.) Maybe they will reopen the case, but I must have my bike NOW! So please help me out by sending any cam chain problems to Jon_Wat@Hotmail.com
Thanks,
Ranger

WOW! Hard to believe! What year is your bike? How many miles are on it? Was there a recall for the cam tensioner? Did you buy an extended warranty?

I think I would be getting the name of the rep that worked with this claim?!

Something is screwed up for Suzuki not to cover this one!

Its a 99/black/gray 5,000 miles, all recall work done, and I asked for an extended warrenty, I was told I would get some pappers in the mail before my original warrenty ran out, I never got them, I didnt think my warrenty was out.

Peace,
Ranger

Ranger I had posted something on Labusas this morning before I ran out the door If you read it could you please respond or do you want me to post it again?

Thradar is right and your dealer is probably 50% of your problem here.

I would caution if your going to use any further dealings with them.

A law suit could really add up since this had been your only means of transportation. It's just too bad someone has to go through that kind of trouble to get what they should be getting in the 1st place.

I guess post it again, it seems gone from labusas, maybe they need to get someone who really knows how to run a website overthere

Not 3,000 for labor, that includes labor, and the parts, that Suzuki is not paying for, its the whole shabang, and yes, a mech. at my deal sudgested I did sue if they didnt pay, the reason being he says "They don't have a leg to stand on." He told the rep that the part was faulty, and I did nothing to cause the damage, and that was ignored. I dont think they care about being a Suzuki dealer, I think its the other way around, Suzuki better care about haveing them as a dealer, maybe thats whats wrong, Suzuki thinks everyone owes them something. Nobody owes them **** , and they need to start kissing a$$ to keep consumers happy, along with dealers. If they don't, I wont buy another Suzuki, and Ill make the biggest deal out of this anyone EVER has,(News,20/20,ext.) This is the worlds fastest production bike, and plenty of news shows would be happy to cover a story like this, and If I was to goto court with the Mechs. statement you think Suzuki would win?
heh no way no how, and If I do have to take them to court, so much more will be tacked on, Endangerment, courts fees, all the good stuff, cause I shouldnt have to feel like the bad guy for asking them to fix my bike, the I didnt break. Chris at Suzuki customer service, insulted me and treated me like **** , this is the second time he has done it. The first time was on the phone with the dealer owner listening with me, He couldnt believe how rude Chris was. I have heard of other people complaining also about Chris. This has gone on long enough, 4 weeks, Im over it. Some guy at Suzuki is suppose to call me Monday or Tues. If its not resolved then, onto court we go.

Peace,
Ranger

Ranger you are the frist person in over 15 years dealing with Suzuki that has stated they will pay for the head but no gaskets or seals?
still something is missing.
I would really like to talk to the SERVICE manager at this dealer something is wrong.
I have been dealing with out of warranty situations for a long time and even if they will not cover labor they cover parts(ALL PARTS).E-mail me their number and name If you want me to try to help.

I knew I should have copied it.
Ok in a short form.
You say you had a great dealer and working relationship with them.
Yet they are charging you $3000.00 labor.
Flat rate time is 6.4 hours roughly to R&R ahead and then add time to replace pistons and cleaning so lets say 10.0 hours that means your good dealer is at $300.00.
Your great relationship with your dealer also told you to sue?
I think more like they do not want to be a Suzuki dealer much longer.
As I said to you before you post and leave a lot of IMPORTANT details out.
Even if you were out of warranty and Suzuki is going to pick up parts and let say you were at a REAL dealer that even charges 60.00 and hour that would be 600.00 on the high side not bad the parts far exceed that price.
Have you called Suzuki customer Relations and NOT say words like SUE, LAWYER and talk in a very professional way on this matter or have you sat down and let the dealer handle it just like you let them handle your extended warranty?
Sorry to be so critical but something smell wrong.

Three times now :)

2 cam chain tensioner failures, 1 before and 1 after the recall notice. The third failure I have had was the transmission with abnormaly worn 2nd,3rd and 4th gears.

Yeah I had some problems and initial frustration in getting this last set of work done. Officially Suzuki will not warrenty the Hayabusa in Japan as it is not sold here, you need to buy an imported bike from a dealer. Alot of phone calls later both with the dealer and Suzuki got the work done, plus a complete engine overhaul, additional 6 months warrenty and nice cover letter from Suzuki explaining what had been done.

The hard part was to keep cool with them and remain persistant, making sure you do not burn any bridges etc. I do know that all the repair work done on my bike each time was at Suzuki and not done by the dealership. I actually think Suzuki 'knows' my bike and are keeping track of it and any problems - it is an early '99 with alot of miles clocked on it now, almost stock and every service done on schedule (boring but safe). I have done the airbox mod and drilled the stock mufflers, Suzuki knows of this and even remapped the ECU for it.

Keep at them Ranger, I hope you will eventually prevail as I did.

A-Tech carbon busa's a kick a$$ bike !

Dazee,
Could you E-mail me a staement about what happend with your tensioner failures, I have a statement from Tom, and I need one from you, so If you could please e-mail it to Jon_Wat@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Ranger

I cant e-mail you, I dont have your e-mail, but that is what they are doing, paying for head, but not valves or anything else, The mech. said the rep was new and doesnt know what he is doing.

Give me your e-mail, and we will chat.
Peace,
Ranger

...Suzuki Japan fixed dazee's bike twice, and I know for a fact that my dealer fixed two bikes that blew up like that, GSXR 750's...

Ranger,
my first tensioner failure was in August '99 before the recall notice, the bike had about 7000km on it and it was a complete failure, taking out pistons, valves, head etc Later, I think it was November, I had the tensioner replaced again for the recall notice - there was nothing wrong this time but a recall is a recall right ! The second failure was in March, I took the bike in for investigating a noise from the right side of the engine, the tensioner was in the process of failing but had not yet failed. This was at about 29,000km on the clock.

This is about all I can provide by way of a 'statement', please understand that I have to be careful as the support on my bike is mainly done by the goodwill of Suzuki now, they have never had any legal recourse to do any work on my bike.

DaZee

Cisco, get it checked by your dealer now. That noise is what I had on the first failure and ignored to my peril, the next time I heard it I got it checked and it was the tensioner failing again, got to it in time to prevent major damage this time.

It may not be the same, but why take the chance ?

My bike is also making the noise on the right side of the engine and only on first start in the morning when cold, the noise will go away when the engine is warmed up.I'm not sure how the Cam Chain Tensioner adjust it's self and was hoping JohnneyCheese would read this post and maybe give us a insight on how the tenioner works
