Tales from the Stampede-Fridee

Bosshound met me at Mel's, a frequent breakfast joint in Jackson CA that is the kickoff place for many local Foothill and Sierra jaunts. The appointed time was 8:00 am, a rather early start for Boss. To my surprise his Mandingo  was in the lot when I rolled in a tad late, 8:02. I was delayed by my garage door that jumped the track and blew the cable off one side. Crooked and stuck, it was a fight to get it forced back down so I could get the He11 outta Wilton.

There sat Mandingo complete with hump attached. Boss explained "HE" (Mandingo) looks much sexy with his "Hump On" and since he (Boss) was planning doing some serious posing this weekend he couldn't leave home less the Hump. After all, looking good was the primary objective. I was thinking to myself Boss had lost that loose screw all together. 200 miles with a 50 pound pack on his back? I wasn't offering to haul it on the back of my sleek and fast Masago fitted meticulously with Cortech bags............. let him suffer.

Suffer he did, by the time we made the State Line his aching back was........ my fault? HEHE he was looking good, well until he took his lid off to revel his grimacing mug at the first refuel in Stateline. Seems the Problem was my choice of route, well posted in advance, a fabulous Slab Free run though the Sierra twisties. I got no credit for piloting him safely past the Fun Monitors along the way.

I couldn't let the man suffer any longer, thinkin' he had learned a lesson, I took on the burden of his 200 pound back pack. Strapped atop my trim and balanced Cortech bags his 500 pound back pack crushed and wrinkled my neatly folded and pressed shirt for the Banquet. I was planning on doing a little posing myself and I had just sacrificed my crisp shirt for the preservation of my buddies lumbar region.

As soon as his 750 pound pack hit the top of my tail pack Masago's suspension groaned and bottomed. I secured it anyway and we were off on the final run to Reno, but not before a unfulfilled wheelie request by a six year old. Boss can't wheelie but if the kid had looked he would have noticed that all that weight had my front off the tarmac even when stopped.

Boss was looking and feeling good the rest of the way, hump on, pack off. Me? Still way out front, Boss and Mandigo small in my mirrors, if at all, even with the front up and the suspension compromised due to the weight of his 810 pound pack on board. The trip thru Tahoe was a slow go most of the way. A few fustrated passes had to be made in order to have at least a little fun. Boss had Mandingo flyin' on Hwy 28 and Mt Rose Hwy, it didn't last long as the next string of uncooperative cages was just a few smiles up ahead. We rolled in to the Peppermill lot at 1:30 to find CCBusa05 keeping a watchful eye and the Busa Lot. He welcomed us with the enthusiasm of Walmart greeter and kindly escorted us to the registration room. We would have never found it without him. Well, Jim and I found it, Boss had to make several roundtrips on the escalator before he found his way. :poke: Thanks Jim, it was great to met you.

Once registered and after meeting a few of our Busa Bro's we headed off to the Hotel and dinner. Tried our luck on the Peppermill's slots. Our donations made, we finished the evening in the Bar determined to suck the hoppy fluid out of every bottle we could lay our hands on. Told some lies and was regaled with many more. Saw Capt Raymond arrive, never to be seen again. See the Stampede Mystery thread if you know of his whereabouts.

Spudly returned to the Hotel some where around midnight, in true .Org spirit he had spent the last few hours in the parking lot working on ChevelleSteve's ride in an effort to get the chain serviced/adjusted and tracking down an oil leak. Right on Spud. BaBusa had trailered up and supplied the tools and equipment to get Steve's machine and others in top shape away from home. Way to Rep BA. Was a pleasure to meet you both. Steve won a gift certificate for a pitbull stand in the raffle. How's that for filling a need. The dealership had left almost no slack in his chain after installing his tire. A task that always needs to be double checked, a rear stand is a must.

Fridee was done some where in the neighborhood of 2 am Saturdee morning.

Hey, I don't look half bad there, considering. Check tale two. It's all there.

Should I post a pic of your new friend? Does the wife lurk in these waters? :moon:

Raymond? ??? Who Knows?

I did see the Basketball Gal  headed to the elevators right after he checked in. Someone said she was bald and didn't have any teeth. :dunno:

That wasn't her prominent feature. Great posture considering no counter balancer was visible.

Good story, Russ...:beerchug:

Great to see you, and the crew, as always.
