tank bra bad idea?

Yeah Yeah, I am with you, I knew where the Bra Came from....  I have the same thing, and tried to elliminate the wrinkles last year to no avail...  Nothing worked because the Carbon panels stretch different'y than the vinyl underneath...  I could come up with a solution.
Thanks Rev. Let me know if you come up with something. If I hose it during surgery I'll just go with a better fitting one.

Tom.
Sorry Bro, What I meant to say in my post was that I Could NOT come up with a solution, Vecro didn't do it, nothing seemed to help... So Prolly a Second Look Skin for me, and I'll use the carbon panels from the old bra to make a nice Hump pad. Should look Good and be pretty simple to do.

Best part of course... Freebie...

Thanks Rev...the second look skins are awesome looking....a little spendy for the carbon fiber...but VERY sweet looking...and they have ones for each color of Busa it looks like too. I saved them to my favs...I'll prolly be getting one soon....thanks again

you da' man!

I've used nothing but a Tankslapper on my last four or so bikes and just yesterday put one on my '04 LE. Nothing better for tank protection IMHO. It's clear so if the paint is going to fade, it'll fade consistently on protected and unprotected areas. Hard to see if installed properly and, best of all, dirt cheap, about $16

Thanks for the tank slapper idea opdsgt , didn't know that products like this were made. I'll have to think about it for a bit.....Is it really that "invisible"? i wouldn't mind haveing one on if it is unnoticable, but would rather just go with a tank cover if it is going to be seen.

Depends on what color bike you have. Typically, the darker the bike, the more the Tankslapper shows. I've had them on several past bikes (several of which were silver: a 954, an FZ1 and a 636) and the TS was damn near invisible unless you ran your hands across the tank.

I put one on my dark charcoal Ducati MS4, however, and it was much more easily seen.

On my red '04 Limited busa, its not an eyesore at all. Most folks who don't ride don't notice it unless I point it out.

In the end, these things cover as much as a tank bra but dirt can't get under them. They don't have to be removed for riding in the rain or washing your bike afterwards. So even if I had an all black '02 busa, I'd still have one on the bike.

FWIW

Read my post a little further up on my opinion of the tank slapper. It's not going to look good on the black/purple color scheme.
For a light/bright color bike like red, yellow, orange, copper, silver, ect. they really are next to invisible.

Take a look at their site and you'll notice none of the pictures show a tank in a dark color

I like the tank bra as you can see. It prevents buckle scratch also... Sooner or later I will get a second look but for now the black will do....

I have used a tank bra on all of my bikes. I am in the market for a Busa now and will use a bra on that too. I regularly clean my bike and keep a can of Pro Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish handy (and I do ride a Suzuki, TLR). When I clean the bike, I just peel back the bra, wipe and replace. No problems, no scratches. I also use the bra as a storage compartment. I keep the clear visor for my helmet between the bra and tank. Of course, the visor is wrapped in a soft cloth. Again, no scratches and no damage to the visor.

I've been thinking about having a couple of pouches sewn into my Tank Bra for holding stuff like cell phones, wallet, etc... Would be handy...

well, decided to go with the tank bra from suzuki. Lot's of thanx for the knowledge and exp.

I had the same bra for 5 years (Just got it on when I got the bike in 99) and just took it away 2 weeks ago. I have the copper 99, and I have been unable to find ANY color discrepency. I do believe metal keep is color a lot longer than we think. My bike is in my garage tho when not running, never left days and days on direct sunlight.. I am planning on either getting a new bra (mine was kinda finish at this point!

or I might just stick some tank protector like carbon finish ...

The one I got from suzuki 2003 didn't fit good at all.  But when I got the suzuki 2004 model it fit Awesome!

That look slike the New Model Letereat, I was thinking about that myself.

OK after 5k miles with the bra in place, I took it off the other day and I am happy to report that the paint looked great. No Scratches, accept for a few right along the edge. But those are no where as bad as bikes I have seen without any bra at all, so over all I am a happy camper.... Paint Fade??? I dunno, but not over the last year and a half anyway.

I use a tank bra and to keep my tank paint from fading I keep her out of the sun. I also take it off every now and then and wax the tank. I do however like it with out the bra, but I don't want my riding pants to rub the sides and wear the clear coat off. My .02

Can you see the tankslappers on here?

Didn't think so....... The back part of the tank, where it gets scratched the most, is a little noticeable, and if you look at it close, you can see the edge. I would rather have that than the second look bra. The main reason was that i didn't feel the color matched close enough and looked kinda gay.....

To each their own!

I think it´s better with a Bagster that is all around the tank.
If you have a half Bagster it´s risk that a small stone is flying up and gets betvin tank and Bagster.

I put on a Pro Grip tank protector on mine. Originally bought it for my FZR600 in 2001 or 2002, but never used it. So i put it on the busa. Attach a pic. Isnt the best pic or angle.
