tax refund my butt!!!!!!!

$300, ??? what a tragedy. If that is the worse thing that happens to you, you should feel lucky. Pick yourself up and just get over it. Life could be much worse.

you're right things could get worse...10k 20k that sux but to me right now $300 is a lot of money...i am tryin my best to pay my way through school with a min. wage job right now, and was really lookin forward to get some money back...like i have said before though it could be worse, and im goin to stay optomistic and look forward to the future...the problem was that i worked on a family farm this summer and they only took out social security tax, so the truth is i earned more money this summer and its comin back to bite me in the butt now...sooooo such is life hahaha

If you can afford to pay $32k per year for college, I don't see what $300 is to you.

And if your family farm didn't withhold any taxes, then $300 is not a whole lot to be paying.

You were 'helping out the family' but getting paid? Sounds like they might have been helping you too...

Maybe I'm missing something ???

Calculate withholdings. Should be 1 or 2 at least. I wouldn't do zero. It should be right where you owe just a little tax at the end of the year. Withhold too much, and you're just giving the government an interest-free loan. IMO, people usually just splurge big refunds on mostly useless stuff as if it were free money. I'd rather have extra cash flow now, put excess in savings and control how much I have.

Hang in there. Starting out is tough...particularly if you're paying all the bills yourself. Just keep in mind that five or ten years down the road, you'll thank yourself for the sacrifices you made today.

Believe me.

And yes, if you earned any significant amount of income and didn't pay taxes on it last year, you'll have a liability.

One day perhaps you'll be in a position to "have" to write checks to the government that some of us here do. Despite what anyone says, or how strange it may seem, having annual tax liabilities in the five and six figure range is a good position to be in.

Sorry to hear that im getting a good ammount back, debt free. I racked up my discover card now I will pay it off, yea.

I'm not the guy with heavy pockets by a long shot, however, if 300.00 is kicking your a$$ then perhaps a new busa shouldn't be in your near future. IMHO

I have everything figured out now soo what it comes down to is S**t happens...i just needed to vent out a lil cause it was a rough day when i found out about it, and this was the topping on the cake...everything is better now....as for the $32k for a school, its all in scholarships, student loans, work study, and my part time jobs...as for buying the busa, if ive worked my butt off for the last 4 years so this is my gift for myself. I am working two jobs right now to pay for it and school, plus have jobs lined up for the summer that will put a pretty dent in that bill...sooooo, sorry bout the venting, sorry for others that have to pay also...and heres to riding!!!!!! :beerchug:

Heck! send em a IOU! Thats what the Govenator is going to do to me. Even after I loaned them money to use this year...................

Seriously...don't feel sorry for those of us who are paying big tax bills. There's a reason for that...and it's not something anyone should feel sorry for.

One of my brother in laws made the statement this Christmas that he didn't like getting his latest raise, because he had to pay more taxes now. I don't know how one is supposed to respond to that mentality.

I guess there are reasons he and my sister never have two nickels to rub together at the end of any given week. Having conversations with them is exactly like this:

Yeah...but it sure is nice recieving that $11K check back from the state & federal every Feb. I'll stick with my withholdings at 0. Consider it a yearly savings account .:beerchug:
