on the end of the cam wheel there is the #'s 1,2,3, remove valve cover and the two allen head caps off the right side advancer cover turn crank untill the engraved line lines up with the notch in the cover (in the smaller of the two holes) that is tdc your cams should be lined up as follows the #1 on the ex. shaft should be lined up with the top of the head, the# 2(has a arrow in front of) should be almost straight up and the #3(the arrow in front of the # 3) on the intake shaft should be 15 cam chain pins apart.from arrow to arrow.

OK, thanks guys. I guess it will all become clear when I start working on it.

Numbnuts: if you could scan me that page, I'd appreciate it (don't go to any trouble though!) - you can e-mail it to me at dave.derrick@barclays.net

Let's hope we get a call from Steve at Drebben (or whatever it's called!) tomorrow!

For the benefit of those of us about to fit the APE tensioner:

JRBusa posted an excellent item on how to install the manual cam chain tensioner.

Could someone who has the factory manual please describe exactly how to position the cams and crank to the factory settings?(I imagine the crank has to be at TDC on cylinder 1? - and there will be some sort of dots/lines etc on the cams?)

Ultimately, Suzuki is going to have to fix the tensioner problem, and the subframe one.

To my way of thinking, a manual tensioner can't suddenly lose tension in the way that has been reported with some of the auto ones, that's why mine's going in - peace of mind!

well daved
without looking at the manual, this is all from my head...so get clarification first!!

2 covers on RHS of engine. One is a bolt cover, the other is valve timing cover. marks on each cam sprocket.
Turn bolt (under cover) untill all marks line up. There is a special order, but I havent got that good a memory!!!

If you want, I can scan a piccy of the page, but it will be tomorrow...

Nuts ;)

Yeah - Just checked.

I Read this board before checking e-mail

(I've edited this because it made no sense what so ever!)

thanks again
