Thanks Pat Tillman

Just read this earlier today at work.

Pat Tillman walked away from millions in the NFL to fight for his country in Afghanistan.

He paid with his life.

The former Arizona Cardinals safety was killed Thursday night in a firefight while on combat patrol. A sergeant with the elite Army Rangers, he was 27.

``He is a hero,'' Cardinals vice president Michael Bidwill said. ``He was a brave man. There are very few people who have the courage to do what he did, the courage to walk away from a professional sports career and make the ultimate sacrifice.''

Lt. Col. Matt Beevers, a spokesman for the U.S. military in Kabul, said a soldier was killed by anti-coalition militia forces about 25 miles from a U.S. military base at Khost, the site of frequent attacks.

A military official at the Pentagon confirmed it was Tillman, and the White House praised him as ``an inspiration both on and off the football field.'

He's definitely is a Hero. Just about two weeks ago I was telling my mother & brother what this guy had turned down to go & fight for his Country. Today I heard the news on ESPN, I was shocked very sad news.

Heard it on the news too in Toronto and what a shocker it was. True patriot and hero. Eternal rest now...well done...you did your country and family proud.

Yeah. I read it also... now THAT was a hero. I mean everyone in the armed forces gets a thumbs up, and anyone who gives their life to protect all of our sorry buts is a hero, and firemen and women,, you all know what I mean.

But not too many people are offered a 3.7 million dollar contract and turn it down to join the military so they can do what they think is right. I mean... what else can you say about a guy like that.. except what an awesome role model.

His teammates and coach and everyone that knew him seem to have the utmost respect for the guy.. That was one of the saddest things I have heard in awhile. My thoughts go to his family and friends. He must have been one hell of a guy

Definitely a stand up guy! From all the things that have been reported on him demonstrate that's the way he handled his life. I particularly liked the fact that he didn't want or participate in any press coverage of his decision or his training. It's unfortunate that he was killed but from how he handled this in the beginning he wouldn't want to be treated any differently than anyone else.

I was also impressed that he didn't want or participate in any press coverage of his decision or his training. This guy was a true hero. R.I.P

It's really tragic when you think of what this guy gave up to serve our country. Definitely not a selfish bone in his body. His loss is truly OUR loss. His picture should be immortalized in every dictionary next to the word "Patriot."

He did the right thing by joining the armed services. But what about the others that gave their lives also. I'm not trying to take away from what he gave/did, but there are more than just him that gave their lives to this and other conflicts. One person/celebrity/athelete doesn't deserve our condolences, ALL of them do.

To all of those who sacrifice their safety for others.
A salute.
A debt of gratitute.
And the support of family, friends, your country, and everyone who cares about the future of our nation.
