The Busa, My First Bike ?

I'd like to add one more thing.....Nathan, being 20 years old, the insurance is going to KILL you! True, I don't know your financial picture but call up your insurance company and get a quote on the 'Busa. I don't own a 'Busa, I own a '99 TL1000R. I like most of the other members of the board started on a smaller cc bike. I went with a used '94Suzuki RF600, kept it for a year then after getting my feet wet on it, traded it in on the TLR. It basically cost me $1000 to do it like that, that was the difference between what I bought the RF for and what I got for trade in. I don't know the costs of bodywork, handles, pegs, lights, etc.. But if you go down once, my guess would be that thousand is gone and your 'Busa is not new anymore.

I have been riding for about 22 years dirt and street. I don't recommend the hayabusa as a starter bike at all. I would first get a lighter less powerful bike and learn how to ride on the street correctly. Even a current 600 is powerful enough for most, even though less torque is involved....If you learn how to ride a smaller bike and use it's power properly it will be much easier to step up to the big man hayabusa and you will already have streeting fundamentals down to the T. It is your choice but I have seen many people get a powerful bike and wad the thing in a few months....If you do get it, great, but start with something more nimble such as an r6/r1. I would get the r6 or another 600 and learn how to ride this to potential first and then step up. If you do get the big man be careful and take your time because the pwr will sneak up and bite you bad....good luck on your decision.

....just to drive my point home with no mercy I would like to point out that just this day I spoke to KawAbuser and he reproted that his rececntly recieved RC51 is so much easer to lean into a turn that he feels he has already become a better and more confident rider, and hopes to transfer these new insights to the Busa when he is ready...this is an old sport bike rider here talken, who has 11,000 plus miles on a Busa...and never dumped it or anything...no, don't run out and get a 750 class sport twin, even an SV650 would be larger than perfect, but you won't out grow it over night, if ever, and it should fit good if you are not tiny or a Moose...they are being raced with great success at a club level...

Hello again,

Sorry to drop off like that. I have read all of the replys and though I want the busa a lot I am now riding a cbr600. It is not my bike but I traded my brother my car for his bike for a while till I "get the feel" for it. Personally I feel fine. I have put around 1000 miles on his bike and still ride my best friends busa almost daily. I also rode the Ninja ZX-12R. (LOVE THAT BIKE)
I didn't think the 12 had as good a feel as the busa but I only rode it about 5 miles. Feels strong though.

I will let you know about my decision once I make it if yah wish.. But for now.. I guess I will put some more miles on the 600 (too small, I am 6`3 220lbs)

By the way.. A few people replyed as if I were going to buy a busa and go race it around on the street.. That isn't exactly what I do. I am more of a drag race guy than street race.. None the less I was really wanting a sporty touring bike and was once looking at the CBR 1100 XX but the honda place here sells busas to and they say the busa is in another league its so much better.

Anyway, I thank you all for your replies and you never know... Someday when your riding around on your bike I might be the guy who pulls up beside yah =)

Later all
Nate

Holy Mac! I did not relize how large you are, Nathen...I can see your attraction to the Busa...a lot of big guys like it for a sport bike...you may be one of those exceptions to the rule, having had a chance to put miles on bikes you don't own....I have never rode on a ZX12, nor did I put any real miles on the Busa before I bought it...The Busa would not be your "first" bike in the same sense that it might be for a total greenhorn...as you are riding one every day any way, one would have to conclude you might as well get one, if that is what feels best to you....considering your position, I don't see why you would need to rush into anything!

Nathan,
After having a 'Busa, I'm not sure I could ever tell someone not to get one ;-)
They're the greatest, and I've had a bunch of cycles! Considering your size and experience, I'd recommend staying away from anything less than a 750, and even that you'll grow out of quickly. Go for it man!
...and remember, blue/silver is not only the best looking 'Busa, but also the fastest 'Busa!!

Hey NathanPrice! What did you get? You stll riding? I wondered if you saw my "DR spanks TL" post...you sort of dropped out of sight...we wondered if you found a bike and how you liked it...
