I absolutely cannot believe that the very same $^%&*^$ fuel line thing just happened to me!!! Thank goodness I had my fairings off and only 1/2 gallon of gas in the tank!

I had a slight rattle coming from somewhere under the tank (nothing major). So I pulled the fairings and checked to see if everything was tight. It was, so I thought I would take it up and down the street in 1st/2nd gear without the fairings to heat it up and see if the rattle started. I pulled into my garage, and listened to the rattle coming a bit from under the tank area. I shut off the bike and raised the tank a bit. I was watching the BACK line on the tank. All of a sudden the line disconnected and it started Whizzing gas down thru the frame. For a second I thought it might be all over BOOM, but nothing caught fire and I just let it drain out.

I cleaned everything up with a mixture of dishwashing liquid spray-down and rinse with water. It's drying nicely with a couple of fans now. Nothing seems damaged. I'll let the harnesses dry our really well.

There you go! Be careful boys, it'll scare the heck out of you.

Any ideas on what the rattle might be?

Im glad I read this Ive had my tank up quite a few times messing with my bra and air box...I think Ill be alot more careful now.....James

Nope. Haven't found it, but I do know it's nothing loose under the plastic. My skills take me as far as the airbox. If it's under there the dealer will take care of it. I didn't want to disconnect the sensors, tubes, throttle body clamps, etc.

Been there, done that ;) only purposely removed the line. My old Katana had an automatic valve, and you could simply pull the fuel lines and maybe loose a drop of gas. I wanted to pull the tank when I was polishing the frame. I pulled one of the lines, and holy !$#@# gas everywhere, and what was worse, that darn spring over the fuel line kept slipping over the end, and I couldn't get it back on tank nipple without a fight. Once I did manage, I realized I forgot the darn clip!! I must have lost a gallon of gas, had to vent out the garage, mop up gas and was really pissed. I guess you need some plugs for the tank and lines if you want to remove the gas tank.............fun fun fun...

Martinm 2 .... the bike comes with 2 tank plugs which are located in the storage boot. Look on the side of the boot ... u'll see two rubber plugs standing and staring at ya! And there is a fuel valve under the tank if u look closely which can be positioned to 'off'
with a screwdriver b4 u remove the hoses next time round ......

Heres a little trick you can use to cut off the fuel so you can remove the tank and not have a gas spill! All you need is a pair of small needle nose vise grips pliers.Slide a 2 inch piece of 3/8 fuel line over each side of the teeth of the pliers. This will effectively pinch off the fuel line without any damage and it will not leak.I have done this many times and it works very well.I use 2 pair of pliers one for each line.

I saw those gas line plugs today in the storage compartment under the rear seat! I wondered what ta heck they were and now I know......Thanks
