The old GSXR1100

Hey, all this talk of the new busa and how fast and great it is really makes me feel left out these days. It seems like owning an older 1100 almost makes you an outcast. We are all still suzuki owners guys. I see alot of 1/4 mile times on these posts around here and many are impressive. For anyone with an older 1100 I would love to hear what kind of time you guys put up with them when they were all stock. And just to avoid confusion let me clarify all stock. No pipe, jetting, gearing, lowering of any type, etc....in other words the way it was delivered from the factory to the dealer. LOL My 94 in all stock form makes 123RWHP on a 150 dynojet and has gone 10.48@130.83MPH(1.70, 4.47, 6.76@107.33, 8.76, 10.48@130.83) this at Pomona, CA and dynoed in Monrovia CA at V&H. I would love to hear from any others and all busa owners of course on any info on all stock machines for comparison. Thanks
Randy

I'm waiting to take delivery on a `busa,but I also own a `86 GSXR 1100,with a 1109 engine,it made 167 rwhp,on the street tire it ran 9.78@141mph,she weighs 390 lbs,and has a 4" over swingarm.

390 pounds and near 170 horsepower, that thing should have run closer to 150 mph..I guess it was a thrill to drive, huh? What mods other than a piston kit did you make to attain the 167 rwhp? Do you have dyno sheets? Thanks.

I own a Hayabusa and a 95 GSXR 1100 that has been bored to 1206cc.Getting ready to Stroke the crank 5mm to take it to 1306cc.

Thats 390 with a 245 lb. rider,the bike also has Web cams,13:1 C.R.,ported head,blueprinted tranny,Mikuni carbs,and a V/H header,I don't ride it much,usually only when money is involved.

Don't have any numbers from when it was stock , but my 91 gsxr1100/1216 was dynoed at 149 hp, and my best run is 10.65/135 (1.89/60,4.76/330,7.03/660). The bike is not strapped, no bars, and scales at 517 with a full tank. I weigh about 230. Sound about right?

tffu......I don't think the size is as big of a consideration as is the proper setup......I am confident that when my motor is done it will be capable of taking a 1300 for a good ride from a dead stop to around 145 or so....can't touch one on top with these brick like old 1100's...LOL but don't forget from a stop to any reasonable speed is more rider than machine.....as it sits now I can give most busas a good run to the 1/8 then they blow by me but that will all change soon with a few mods....and it will still have cost me less than a stock busa....a good sleeper for sure. Later

GSXR1117 you make a good point that it is the rider and not so much the size. I have witness three races BUSA vs GSXR1100(87),GSXR1100(92) and ZX11, all were eight mile races. The out come the 87 had to use NOS to win, the 92 did on motor (4" o/swingarm,degreed cams, dyna 2000 and the ZX11 well let's just the ZX11 had about a 4 to 5 bike lead the finish was to close to call(street race) Needless to say that after this lesson they have since stipulated NO NOS. The BUSA rider is a know pro rider, the others were just our everyday street and track racers. I have not had the opportunity to race this guy yet because of a bad 2nd gear. I am also working on a sleeper and as you stated top end racing is out of the question.

Saw good street race last weekend between busa with pipe and 1255 95 gsxr 1100...a good running 1100. Good close run for one quarter mile...busa maybe one bike....at the end of three eights mile busa had pulled out around 5 bikes. We do not have one quarter mile strips everyone runs one eight mile...both these bikes on street tires run over 122 in eighth mile at strip...1100 has over length arm and busa was lowered but stock length. Have seen busa with head work pipe and a little tweaking go 183 hp on dyno...by the way had friend at air strip when lee`s bike ran 200 don`t believe all that is said.

I have a question since we are talking about the old GSXR1100, what size motor would one need to beat a 1300R. Don't get me wrong the 1300R is a bad mother but I get this uneasy feeling when I hear talk about the "OLD GSXR1100". Any suggestions?

well i have a 1991 gsxr 750 with a 1216cc motor. hyper cycle head, ported and polished, mega cycle cams, competition valve job, falicon crank, undercut tranny, etc, etc, etc, it has all carbon fiber fairings, (clear coated, not painted) technomagnesio magnesium rims, yosh rear sets and pegs, yosh duplex stainless system, six piston calipers from a 96 gixxer 750, extra yosh oil cooler, dechellis plate to allow use of a cable clutch, stock 750 38mm carbs with stage III jet kit and k & n filters, etc, etc. anyway, it still has the stock ride height, stock wheelbase, etc. it has 155 rwhp on a dynojet 150 dyno. 93 ft lbs of tourque. i've run a 10:30 @ 138 mph with no burnout, no lowering, no tire pressure adjustments. just ride it to the track, run through the 1/4, ride home. now admittadely, i'm fighting the front wheel through the first three gears, but wow, what a ride. now, my busa stock went a 10:30 @ 138 mph and another @ 140. keep in mind, i am not used to a hydraulic clutch, those times on the busa were with a (okay, this is embarrasing) 2.09 short time. (told you i can't launch a hydraulic clutch) lol anyway, it will take a serious motor to beat the busa in the 1/4 with same rider and same setup (i.e. lowered, swingarm, etc.) so, don't worry about who's faster. i spent 25 large on my gixxer, and stock with me on it, the busa is faster. period. i've always said, "how fast do you wanna go? how much money do you have?" it's that simple. spend more money, (if done right) and you'll go faster. have fun, and remember, "trust me, it may smell bad, but it don't taste like that"

Man, 25K on your GSXR!! that is way to much for me. I got a killer deal on my 1100 back in 96 when I bought it brand new. It was a 94 leftover model and with the smoking deal they cut me on it plus my mods I still have not bought a busa yet! I will be pushing close to busa HP and will be able to give any reasonabley close to stock busa a run for his money till we clear 145 or so. REally on the street where you do 90% of your riding it will be a match for any bike unless they plan on running accross the desert or accross Montana where I live....LOL Unfortunately my ride will not be done in time for this season but next year should prove fun!! Later all!
