The Superbyke's Custom GSXR 1000 Tail Section Conversion

Ok I spent several hours today playing with the stock seat pan, measuring, tweeking, more measuring and trying different positions. I have come to the conclusion that the stock pan can be used with a little bit of modification.

More to come soon

Ok after much time and energy without heavy modification the stock seat pan can not be used. I think a pocket would need to be cut for the battery and also the back would need to be trimmed to meet/mesh with GSXR 1000 tail section.

I have been working on this off and on for the last month and have just about wrapped everything up. Bike is going to Corbin for a one off seat and pan in the coming 2-3 weeks.

Here is the final pieces both bolted up, these pieces came after many revisions.

Here you can see the solid cross bar, it has screws that thread into it from outside of each plate. This offers two purposes, one is to allow a place for the battery tray to bolt to and hold the weight of the battery and two add strength overall to the tail section by have pieces that bolt to both the front and rear of the plates to create a rigid box.

Here you can see on the outside of the plates I have spacers that take up any space in between the frame rails and the sub frame rails.

The wiring was a huge pain, as we went from lots of space to virtually no space. I had to remove the tabs that went into the frame here so the wires had slack in both directions.

Tight fit, I forgot to move the tip over sensor to it's original location and will move it when I disassemble everything for powdercoat.

Rectifer was installed on the exterior of the stock 1000 subframe portion that the passenger hump clicks into, The bodywork covered it and has a tight clearance but it fits. With this set-up you lose and ability to carry anything other that a tool kit.

Your stock hump key fixture will fit with no problems, however a new cable will need to be made or ordered as the stocker is to short. I will post what we do once it's complete.

I took the harness off of the 1000 tail and spliced it's connectors to the busa wires. Easy!

It looks super sleek under there, I am so glad that I took the time to make this kit work with the stock battery tray.

This picture shows the almost finished product and it also shows the bike with the back (suspension) raised one inch. I still need to relocate the rear brake reservoir.

And Doyle (raydog) test fitting everything.

Stay tuned more to come in the following weeks as we wrap the project up with a trip to Corbin, some powder coat and the Superbyke is getting some fresh paint.

@ a quick glance it almost looks like a B-King

Wonder if a tail from there would've been easier 2 convert on a busa??

It would of been a lot easier and it would of been a lot less cool as well. Have the fun in anything for me is the challenge. Beside I am not a fan of the Bking tail with the reliefs for the two fat exhaust canisters.

That is an awesome idea!!! I would love to see someone with some photshop skills take this and run with it (obviously without the GIANT mufflers)

As I type this the bike is at Corbin in Hollister, Ca getting the seat custom made. It won't be long now, a little paint when the bike gets back and this thing will be finished.

Just got home from Corbin in Cali, the seat is incredible! I actually stood with Mike Corbin and Arlen Ness next to my bike and had a discussion! The Superbyke looked quite distinctive surrounded by Victorys and Harleys. When the seat pan and new pad was brought out and fitted to the bike, the technician said, "take it around the parking lot and see how it feels". I started it up in front of Arlen and Mike and as I started rolling out of the building, Mike shouts, "do a burnout". I did a TurboBusa burnout for the V twin boys! Not too monster but just so the 20 or so fellas (who were standing around looking at Arlen like he was Jesus)knew who had some power. I'm tired, it's dark and late, pics tomorrow! Doyle

Bike is back from Corbin and it turned out great!

I just got off of the phone with Mike Corbin and we worked out a deal for Corbin to make these seats for my kit. I will be taking the bike back down there in a month and leaving it with them so they can create the tooling to reproduce the seats for my kit.

I am really excited to be able to have a company like Corbin on board with my idea and willing to work me so that I can offer the public my version of this kit.

On the way home on the freeway from Central California to Reno, motorcycle riders would slow down by the trailer and just stare. 3 different guys gave a thumbs up as they passed....I hope they all realized it is a Busa!
