Tire changers

I realize it's a waste of money, but I am so sick of the whole inconvenience of dealership tire changes.

Half the dealers won't install unless bought thru them, the other half charge in excess of 35.00 a tire and no gaurantees on not scratching the rim.

Has anyone ever tried no mar tire changers, I looked around a bit and they seem to be the easiest to use and have a great web site for demo videos.
995 plus shipping for this one.
Anyone others out there?
Thanks,

I think GPW uses some of the No Mar stuff. He changed my tires and it worked pretty well. The only other thing he used was the Snap-on balancer.

I was thinking about this, but how about the balancing? I understand the bubble doesn't work because of the high speeds....

A local guy here charges $50 for each tire. I was all set to start doing my own tires but found another local guy who charges $20. Allegedly, another guy charges $15.

For $20, I can take it in! If it were still $50, I'd do it myself. In fact, I'd probably buy that rig in the first post up there.

I have a coats 220 tire changer  it does bike tires and car tires also,as for the balancer i made mine. my tire machine cost 800.00 shipped.

When I can afford it, I'm getting one of these. Doing it yourself means it gets done right and when you need it to be done.

(stlbusarider @ Sep. 24 2007,18:26) I work in a shop here in stl. I can mount them for free for ya just can't balance them.
if you are serious about being able to do this without getting in trouble with The Man, i will buy a balancer we can use...as many problems as i've had this year, it wouldn't take long to pay for itself

Don't half step now, go ahead and get the No mar tire changer or the cheap edition tire changer linked below.

Here what I use to change my tires. Initially it was a beoyyyytch getting the rear tire back on. However, if you watch the No Mar tire changing video on their web page you shouldn't have a problem. I just wish the dayyuum video was around when I used my Harbor frieght tire changer for the first time.

(jjmetheny @ Sep. 28 2007,20:flamethrowing:) I use the Harbor Freight stand with the No-Mar mount/demount bar.
I thought about doing that, especially since I have chromed rims. Is it worth it?

I have a No Mar tire changer similar to the one listed at the beginning of the thread. I think that one is the Jr. Pro Ultimate model, I have the Pro Model Ultimate Package. I use it to do my motorcycle and my ATV's. It works wonderfully and does not scratch or damage the wheel at all. For balancing I have a home made unit that works great. I have balanced a couple of wheels and took them to local dealership for them to verify the balance on a spin machine (my good buddy is the service manager so it's free). Everytime I have balanced them myself the machine shows that they are dead on. I am happy with my home made balancer and my No Mar tire changer. If you want to do all your own work this is the way to go.

I also wanted to add, that if you step up to the Pro model, you can safetly change most all car tires as well. I have used mine to mount truck tires up to 33" tall and also some low profile tires in the 30-45 series range. Car tires can be a little more difficult, but still not too bad.

I like the one from Harbor Frieght, if it works good, it would pay for itself in 3 changes. I'm looking at doin' 'em myself too, tired of paying too much at the stealership over here, not to mention the long azz wait to get it done since it is just a carry in. what about the nomar bar you speak of?
