Tires: What is the verdict?

I know we have gone back and forth quite a few times over which is the best tire for the Hayabusa. I have paid little attention to the debate however. Now the question is:Which tire is the best in the following categories?

-Sport performance

-Long lasting

-Everyday road grip

-Grip on less then perfect surfaces.

-Price

This has just recently become an issue to me since returning from a long ride in the twistys this weekend it was pointed out to me that some threads were just starting to poke through.

I would greatly appreciate any input anyone may have to give.

Right now you really have an easy decision.
The dunlop 207ZR is the only one with a 200 size rear that can be bought now and the grip and feedback is within a hair of the pilots which are still unobtainable as of today.
Despite what you may read, stick to the 200 rear size. It will probably be the oem size for 01 busa in a special BT010 compound.
Rounder profile more sidewall contact than 190. Cant tell by looking, just looks rounder while the 190 looks flatter.

I have the Pilots 190 at the moment

Dont like them as much as the Dunlop 207 sportsmax 190

Don't feel as confident in corners. Just my own personal opinion on UK roads and my riding style.....

But the Pilots sure as hell last a lot longer.

OEM's were not good for me.

Nuts ;)

I've got a 200mm 207ZR that had better be showing up here tomorrow if UPS knows what's good for them. I chose it because being that it is the OE spec rear tire for the second fastest bike on the planet, I feel comfortable using it on a vehicle of the performance envelope of my Bus. It has a steel belt in it to keep it together at speed or something. It is the only 207ZR that has it. The 207ZR is the hands-down favorite around here for the type of road surfaces that we have. Other parts of the country may prefer other tires.

Well if there's a footprint problem running 190s I haven't found it despite knee&pegs&fairing down at the same time whilst pretty hard on the power.

I like a 190 rear - speeds the steering up no end.

I thought OE BTs were slippy junk - I just lurve my pilots.

Gonna try the Azaro Sport II next. (which is available in 300KMH ratings btw) and so apart from the OE is rated for the Busa.

I suspect the the Azaros will be even grippier than the Pilots in the dry and the Pilots better for mixed conditions.

Pilots out last OE.

Thanks alot guys,

So far it is 4 to 2 in favor of the d207's.

What do you guys know about the speed rating on these tires. While I do not always ride to the max limit, I do try to bump 170 or 180 before I end a ride just to get my adrenaline fix for the day. Would hate to have a tire come apart on me at that speed.

I agree the stock tires for the Hayabusa leave alot to be desired so I am looking for a change. Would like to focus on performance but price is an issue as well.

From what i herd about D207 are not good on the Hayabusa, they make the bike wobble. I just moutned a set of Michlin Pilot Sports on
this past Saterday, very nice tire. I only got
a chance to put 100 miles on them, form what i
can tell they work really well.

I was at dealers a couple days ago and they had the 200 D207. One of the parts guys I know passed one of the tires over the counter to me and said your not going to beleive how light this tire is. I gotta say it felt really light. I'm curious now how much it weights compared to the pilot.

HMMM

Just found out that in the uk if you dont run OE J's or metz equive the insurance companies will laff in the face of your big gettoff claim. best check it out with Suzuki to see what the recommend

I'm no road racer, but I feel the stock tire hooks up well with 25 psi with no spin. Full throttle and low speeds. I want to put a set of Michelin pilots, but I have conserns that the tire will spin. The same concerns with the Dunlop. Any advice?

Just want to say again that the D207's do not
work very good on the Hayabusa, makes it a bit
unstable. The Michilen pilot sport offers more grip than the OEM's,ijust came back from
a ride were i got more of a chance to test these tires. Very cool! LadyBuza 25psi in your rear tire will cook it,meaning you a going to shorten the life of the tire. Tires
for the Busa are not cheap

The pilot sport 200 will have the same steel belt.
The 207's work like a dream on the busa with the 200/50/17 out back. Running'em both at 39-40psi, recommend 41.
Stable as hell with loads of grip and total predictability at the limit.

Speeder T,
You're right about that. Already replaced one. What psi do you recommend? I also rubbed a hole in the back inner fender from having a rider. No more riders needless to say. I soften the suspension now and it seems to handle a little better. Not so BBBBBBBBBBouncy.

LadyBuza take a look at Omega's post,he is
running the same pressures that i am. Once
you change the pressure you may need to reset
your suspenion again. When the bike comes from the factory it is set for a single rider
from what i can remember. You would have to
stiffen up the rear to carry the extra weight of a passenger, like a click or two of
rebound.

I have never heard of insurance companies denying claims due to tires not being what is recomended by the maker. I do not think they can get away with that . Just like on cars, if you put big or little tires on they cannot deny claimes because of it.

Has anyone ever heard of this before or had it happen to them.

What about speed rating on other tires though.

Those insurance issues are in Britain.Just another reason that we should all be glad that we kicked 'em out. ;)(it's a joke)

Got the 200mm D207ZR on today. I'm still scrubbing it in, but I can already tell that I'm going to like it a lot more than the OE Slipstone. Very stable, just like the BT56J (although I haven't had it over 150 yet). Turns in easier than the BT56J. More predictable and linear when banking. No more 2nd gear half throttle roll-on burnoffs, front end just comes up if you give it enough throttle. My Bus is 1.5" down front and rear. Wimp strips are still about 3/4" wide, but I only have about 30 miles on it.

koz the lightest tyre (by a huge margin) is the Azaro.

RE insurance, they can only refuse to payout if the mod to the vehicle directly contributed to the accident.

Got to buy a tire quick, this will be the third tire in 7K miles on the back. My question is not only the longevity issue, but the speed rating issue? I have an interest in trying both the Pilot sport and the D207 ZR tires. Near as I can tell neither have the speed rating high enough for the Busas. Dunlops web site recommends the tire for the busa, however the Michelin site shows no fitment available. I keep hearing from My dealer that the Batalcrap Bridgestone is the only tire that has the Speed rating needed. He has all tires in stock. I do drive this bike at the high end alot so speed ratings seem important to me. Any input is appreciated. I am also interested in the differences in the 200 rear instead of the stock 190s.
