To Power Command, or not to Power Command

Yo,

I've heard a lot of negative things in the past month about powercommanders, especially from Suzuki dealerships here in Texas.
I've also was going to order one online, and the sales department actually contacted me and said I would be better off just remapping my busa than plugging in a powercommander due to the added stress on the busa PC.
So after that I went to the dealership where i purchased my busa from, and they told me, "Yes, it can have a negative effect on your bike. It's basically one brain telling the other brain how to operate". He went on to tell me that more than 20% of their repairs had to do with the powercommanders, DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't really heard anything negative on the board about the powercommander, but decided against the powercommander as of now, just remapping it as needed.

Can any of you guys share your experiences with me?

Thanks,

That's news to me...!

They say 1 in 5 repairs are related to Power Commanders? If so, it's an amazing statistical anomaly. After selling approximately 50 Power Commanders to Busa owners during the last year, I have heard of zero problems that required repair caused by the unit. I could (maybe) see an occasional problem if the unit was mapped grossly wrong by a bumbling "tuner" but I've never even seen that. Poor tuners don't survive long enough to screw up anywhere near 20%. Of those 50 units, I have only heard of 1 that failed (DOA) and it was immediately replaced. It sounds like pure dealer HOOEY to me.
Does the dealer have his best interests in mind or yours?

Stress? Hmmmmm... I would really like to see a rational tech explanation of "ECU stress" caused by a Power Commander.

That dealer is telling you a bunch of garbage, my friend. I have 2 power commanders, 1 a year old, the other is 3 years old. Haven't had one problem. Just buy it, and take it to a good tuner to get it mapped properly, and you will have no problems.

What kind of mods do you have? If you are still stock, don't bother with it.

Cool.

I have a muzzy full exhaust, and I'm about to purchase a TRE. But I heard that you don't really need to adjust your map when you install a tre, is that right?

Anyway, is it harmful not to have a powercommander and just tune your bike accordingly instead to save some bucks?

Thanks for the feedback. I thought it was a bunch of crock, I've just heard it from a lot of people, it kins of makes you wonder.

you wont be able to tune your FI without the PC. DONT get a TRE. WIth a PC, you can get a correct tune and not need a TRE. Matter of fact a TRE can mess up a good map.

since we're on the subject of PC how do u tell when the map is loaded does it say connection lost after it goes through the verifying? And you metioned mapping without a pc how is that done?

Why don't you clue me in?

And why is a TRE that affects timing bad when used with the a device that dials in fuel mix?
rock.gif
And if you say timing affects mix, you'd better point me in the direction of at least 1 valid source

Dude.....I'm not gonna open that can of worms....trust me. All I will say is check out the PC III R. It can adjust TIMING. My timing is bumped up with my PCIIIR and dont have to use TRE. Plus....a TRE can fug up a good map. Trust me.....I've seen it with my own eyes on a dyno. Cheese head made me investigate what was going on.....and the crabby bastid is correct...........imagine that!!! :-) Now if he would move further north, I could get a kick aZZ map for the bus.
