To SEP or not SEP

How many of you bought the Suzuki SEP. If you did buy, did it change the way you looked at modifying your bike. For example, did you put off doing a mod because of the SEP?

I didn't buy it either...I just don't have faith in fighting for 'em to cover something, but I know guys that have major issues and are thankful they bought the SEP...it's completely a personal choice...

Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?!

Kidding aside, I knew I would be doing all of the maintenance on the bike myself. I live in the sticks and knew it would never make it to the shop for work. While my dealer in NC insisted that as long as I kept my receipts/records for work I'd performed and stuck with Suzuki's time table for maintenance, no Suzuki dealership could turn me away for warranty work if I bought the extended plan. I had problems from the get-go with a local dealer on just the standard one year warranty, so I decided to avoid the entire headache and opted out...crossed my fingers and away we go...

If you can get a good deal on it, go for it. You never know when someone was having a bad day at work. Plus you can add a couple hundred to the resale when get rid of it for and 07.

How much did it run you?
I have seen good, bad and ugly. I was a Sales Manager @ a dealership. It all depends on if your dealer will fight for you or blame you. Your SEP is only as good as the place you bought it.

Not sure how Suzuki is with their SEP, but I didnt get one. Reason : After purchasing several extended warranty's for my Polaris snowmobiles and Victory bikes I quickly found out when I had a problem, they didnt seem to stand behind anything the sales guy told me when he sold me the contract.

Abuse, neglect, or thats within Production standards "And dont worry about that Crack" is what turned me away from Polaris and any other Extended Plan. Heck, I even got grief for doing my own oil changes, I mean C'mon

...yeah, that's the kind of crap I didn't want to deal with...seems they try real hard to NOT cover something they should, and who's going to win in the end? Sure didn't assume it would be me...

I'd say go for it if it's a good deal and you trust your dealer...it might be money you never benefit from spending, but it also may save you a lot of headache should something go wrong...go with your gut...

OT: Ted, how's your new addition doing. I would start reading him the Busa owners manual so it will be second nature when the time comes

It's been a few years, but I think my dealer (guy I trusted and would go back to) said it was $450ish...that was for 4 years? Am I in line with other offers? It's been a while...

I got it, but was told that if the chain breaks and cracks thinks up down low, that the plan did not cover that. Salesperson said that because of the tremendous torque this would be a great possibility. I don't think I will be redlining or even getting close so believe this won't be a real issue for me.

Well, let,s see. I paid $600.00 for the ext. warr., the starter exploded, 02 thang, and the bill was like $650.00, so it saved me $50.00, so far.

I didn't get the sep either, I know people that have an never used it. and people that have used them. So I guess it just depends on whether you want to take that chance.

So let me ask this. Say I get the SEP; what does that do to the warranty if I change the exhaust, or some other mod. Will it void the SEP?
