Tough times...and excuses of the Corporate World

Well just when I heard it all...BAM, it happens to me. Okay, I have been hearing all about the recession we are in, watched the stock markets drop, hear about people being layed off, etc. Well, I work in Cardiology (Medicine) at a hospital. Why would a hospital be affected in a recession? We dont produce a product. In fact, our numbers are up for the past 2 years. Administration decided to use the recession as an excuse and cut pay. I found out this morning my pay will be affected by $750.00 a month! Now, I make six figures, but still that is a nice chunk of change! Now, how should I break it to my ex-wife?! I guess I will have to cut back on eating out and other things, because I am not cutting back on my Busa mods! Excuses of the corporate world.

Dont worry, Greg (GPW), I am still buying that pipe next week!

sorry to hear it....I took a hit first of the year as well.

like you ..I am not sure why it would hit a hospital/medical. It's not like people are going to stop gettting hurt or sick because they have no money.

...but I guess if they have no job and no insurance they will put off going to the doctor when they are sick/hurt.

go figure, they closed 2 hospitals here on long island and are scaling back big time in other places. My mom is a nurse for the VA and they are feeling some pinches but not nearly as bad as the hospital she used to work at.

The two safest places to be in a recession/depression are consulting and the government. Figures, my boss told us the other day we are sold out and actually hiring a few people to offset the workload but we are a consulting group and work with the government.

I think these days companies are using the recession as an excuse. If it really makes you wonder, look at their public filings with the SEC. If the big bosses are still getting PAID big time... maybe time to rethink which group you work with :( I know my corp leaders all were taking paycuts, significant ones to get the company back on track but never cut our pay and in doing so earned a lot of loyalty and trust :beerchug:

Hard to feel sorry for you, Mr Six Figures

Seriously, this is no laughing matter. This recession is a "pruning" of the business world, but it's no fun to be one of the branches on the bubble as to whether it's cut :please:.

We get juiced either way.. When the economy is up, we pay more for necessities such as gas, housing and other consumables. When the economy is down we take pay cuts.

Sorry to hear, hopefully it will all work out.

Our numbers are doing well (private practice) but I can see a trend developing with people losing their jobs and more importantly, losing their insurance..

These patients still see us but under far different circumstances in many cases.. I wonder how many are going to be going to "cash" cases..

COBRA is cost prohibitive for many but we do immuno replacement therapy and so a mandatory bridge to new coverage to avoid pre-existing determination.. (a big deal when your treatment for a year is easily $100G or more..)

consultants don't get a break and aren't immune either... I had to take a 5.5% cut back in September to retain my "contract". :moon:

sorry, you are not the only one feel the pain of cut back. i am in car business and we missed our budget by 50% in feb.:banghead:

Just had a mtg today with the boss about how the local gov't I work for will close the $4M gap this coming budget year; we're also facing increasing health care costs, no raises last year or this...scary times for everyone... :banghead:

Sucks man, sorry to hear the news but sadly enough it's just more of the same.

Maybe, just Maybe, prices are realining themselves where they should have been all the time ???

That is, EXCEPT what Congress spends :sneaky:
