Traded her in for...

Today is a bittersweet day for me. I was the very proud owner of a 2007 Hayabusa from May of 20007 until today at lunchtime. I was overly ecstatic to buy the 'Busa when I did, but the longer time went on the more I realized I was wasting its full potential and not really getting my money's worth out of it. It was kind of disappointing to have this absolutely amazing bike that I would never fully tap the potential of. In fact, I would probably never fully tap even a tiny fraction of the bike's ability. I did take it to two track days where I had a ton of fun, but I hated putting along at 4k rpm around town just to keep from doubling or tripling the speed limit. I know my mindset would be different if I lived in Texas or Montana or Wyoming or something like that where I could hit some deserted highway and hammer it past 150mph or so, but that is not the case. I live in heavily suburbanized St. Louis County where 95% of the time the speed limit is 45 or less and I hit stop and go rush hour traffic on a daily basis where it takes me 35-45 min just to go 14 miles to work every single day.

Most folks in your position would have lowered it, put a long swingarm and a big fat tar on the back, and went cruising.
You shoulda gave me a yell before it got cold and came over to the left side of Missouri. An ongoing twisties deathwise here.
If you want a riding vacation come spring, shoot me a PM. Bring the Fizzy and your track leathers, it's a goood fun time here in the Ozarks.

Congrats on the new bike! I had an 01 FZ1 and really enjoyed it.

I live by a military base, im sure traffic is just as bad here. but then you got those long straight country roads on the outside of town and the beaches and i think the busa is just perfectly comfortable, but thats just me, never been to big of a yamaha fan.

maybe. have a New Thread that you couldnt take it, you "had to get the busa back" thread on stand by. just throwin that out there.

The FZ1 is still a lot of bike. You probably will never get it out of 2nd either! But, if it is comfy, then enjoy it. Good Luck with the new bike!

I understand where you're coming from, Beaquel. My Busa is the only bike I have ever owned that doesn't get wound out regularly. In fact, I have only hit redline twice, and that's way more than fast enough to lose your license in a lot of places near here. That, and I have to be really careful on our twisty roads to not get too fast between corners with the big Bus.

But I'd think you might have some of the same issues with that FZ1. That's no lightweight either in the horsepower department.

Good luck with your new ride. I am sure you will enjoy it.

I was having my bike tuned and the tuner asked me when do I shift?
I replied it varies, I don't fully understand.
He asked again, do I shift at redline?
I laughed and said "not usually no, even in first gear at redline
I'm looking at jail."

They are very nice bikes and there are lots of mods. They look great with a short wind screen and rear fender eliminator.Good luck and enjoy.

Having willpower is a *****. You can ride any bike anyway you want. Some take longer to get to speed than others. It's not a bike problem.

After extensive consideration, I decided that the best alternative (now that the B-King is gone) would be a Yamaha FZ1.

30 pounds makes that much of a difference pushing it around??? I'm not much for half fairing bikes but the fz1 has definately got some balls for what it is. My brother is trying to decide between that and an sv1000 right now.

Quick, someone get some warm weather his way, his brain is frozen, quick get an ambulance, there still may be hope for him.

You get this all the time. People have to justify their sale or trade. I'd rather have someone post that the Busa wasn't for them and that they found something better suited for them. There's no one bike suited for everyone, though HD thinks so.

Hey you'll love the FZ1. Great naked all arounder! Less aggressive cockpit seating means more long distance rides for you. If you decide you want to go places I have a brand new (well used on one trip) made in America RKA 35L bags with rain covers. Good addition to go anywhere for week.

Congrats on your bike. Wardie

To be honest with you, I just couldn't handle having a bike stuck in second gear around town anymore. It just didn't make sense to be paying as much as I was on a monthly basis for a bike with effectively only 2 useful gears. The bike had so much power, shifting was purely an exercise in fuel conservation. I certainly didn't need to be in anything higher than 2nd unless I hit the highway. I'm hoping a less powerful bike like the FZ1 will allow me to actually rev it once in a while without risking jailtime. If I ever wanted to rev the 'Busa, I was immediately into license revocation territory in the blink of an eye. It was fun the 3 or 4 times I ever hit full throttle in my entire ownership experience, but it wasn't something I could justify the monthly payment on. Don't get me wrong, this was an AMAZING bike and I'm very sad to give it up. It just wasn't the right bike for my circumstances in suburban St. Louis County. With 2 young girls at home, my opportunities to travel to places where I could enjoy the bike were slim to none. So, I will look forward to the point in my life where I can enjoy a Hayabusa to a greater extent. Until then, I am going to try to more fully tap the FZ1's potential. My other leading candidate before I decided on this was the Triumph Street Triple R. I really could have rev'd on a 675cc bike. I might have even broke 10k on the Tach once in a while. I can count less than 10 times I ever did that on my Hayabusa in something other than 1st gear.

I had an FZ1 before my first 'busa. It was a great machine and I totally loved it--was great for longer rides as well. It still have a fair amount of power when you need it. But...sorry to tell you... after owning 2 'busa's..I wouldn't go back!
