Good god...i  learnt to shift bikes at 7y/o drove my first car @10 on our property..manual tranny...all cars purchased in my life... except for my wifes car has been a manual tranny...Oh yeah not to mention i am a truck driver...and have shifted 5-18 speeds on a daily basis for over 6years...So i think i can shift all in all I have 33years shifting trannys

Anyway...the tranny in the Busa SUX it feels at times worse then a Big rig tranny....i have missed 5-6th due to it not slipping in...sometimes i fell like i really have to kick it up...i have adjusted the shifter a bit lower, still not a real help.

I find if i am traveling quickly..or accelerating hard  it is better not to use the clutch whilst upshifting this way i am sure that it will be in gear and not over rev..

I changed oil at 237km, and 1043km using bike oil.(10-40)..I am seriously considering Semi Syn...or Full Syn....and see it it helps

anyone else with this agravation??

its normal bro. if you want it to shift like a lexus, get ready to spend some dough and have it back-cut.

I only use the clutch for stopping and down-shifting.

OK....thanks for the info I had planned to have a race cut tranny put inthis fall, after it goes into storage...along with a few other toys....

Just wanted to see if anyone else had prob's......if gets worse i will have my wrench look into it sooner....verses fighting warranty issues that never seem to get looked after at dealers

Hey, new here. First post. Old thread but for those that might find it whilst searching for problems solutions in the future, wanted to recommend maybe either changing your oil/filter more often, or use different type of oil. My Busa shifts nicely til I get more than 1K miles on the oil if I am doing mostly twisties or city riding. My Intruder 1400 was the same way. Obviously there could be other reasons, but I haven't found Suzuki transmissions to be crappy shifting in general. Quite the opposite, actually.

Perhaps also something is slightly awry with the clutch hydraulics. Now this I do not believe is so uncommon w/ Suzukis.

good call with the oil.

after I went to full synth Mobile1, it did shift smoother.

I've owned/ridden a whole lotta machines over the years...so maybe all that shifting's helped, but honestly my Busa is the easiest to shift machine I've ever rode, closely followed by my 91 GSXR-1100 and my buddies 95 1100. I just nudge the shifter on my Busa and it almost picks the next gear on its own. I missed the 5th/6th shift twice within the first 20 miles...and have never missed a gear since. It doesn't take brute force...you just need to follow through with your foot...it may have a longer throw...but it aint a box o' rocks by ANY stretch of the imagination.

I just bought a used (8000 mile) 2003 'busa, and it shifts like crap, especially 4-5 and 5-6. I was hoping it would have a slick shifting tranny, but it's horrible now. I've thought about the oil, which was just changed, and also bleeding the clutch, both of which have helped on my other bikes. Just looking to see if this is normal. Does fully synthetic oil work well with this bike?

fully synthetic, yes it does work well. I started using it at about 2000 miles. 9000 miles on it now with half of that at the dragstrip.

My second gear up-shifts and first gear down-shifts are horrible at 2000 miles. Anything below 3000 rpms and it clicks into gear like butter, but if I go to 6000 in first and shift into second it crunches big time and sounds like garbage. Is there an adjustment to tighten the clutch up or anything. I changed my oil at 32 miles, 100 miles, 500 miles, 1000, miles, 1500 miles, 2000 miles and started using Silkolene Pro 4 10w-40. Any help would be great.

I've got 2,403 miles on mine...still running dino oil, and mine shifts like a dream...at any rpms...any gear. My tranny shifted great from the get-go...hasn't changed at all. I don't understand the shifting probs some of you guys are having....the only things I can think of are (1) I'm a pretty smooth shifter and have rode alotta bikes over the years...and (2) maybe some of the bikes are coming off the assembly line with rougher trannies than others. In my experiences Suzuki's have always seemed to be some of the best shifting...and the Kawi's I've owned/rode have been the worst by far.

Mine did the same thing when it was new, switched to syn and put more miles on it and it shifts fine. Not sure why the Busa's do that.....

Mine shifts as smooth as silk also. Changed oil/filter at 400 and again at 1000 miles, currently have 1200 miles on this 05. I have always used only dino 10w-40 in my bikes. I did miss a 5-6 shift once, but that was my error, lazy foot.

This is my second new Suzuki.  These things shift like trucks compared to the Yamaha I had (thinking about trying double clutching the Busa
smile.gif
).  According to the Sevice Manager at the dealership (they sell both Yamaha and Suzuki), the Suzuki shifts tougher because its build tougher.  The Suzuki will withstand things that will have you bringing the Yamaha into the shop with broken gears.  I don't know if that's true, but he's always been straight with me in the past.

My '05 shifts very notchy according to my buddy with a new 04 ZX12R. I also noticed that it was not buttery as well. The '05 1200 Bandit that I traded in on the Busa did shift better, IMHO. We swapped bikes and the ZX shifted like butter so I can see where he was coming from. But I only have 600 miles on the bike so I am assuming that it might take some getting used to as well as some more breaking in. Because of the shifting, I was reading threads about it, and I found a reference to the shift lever shaft being loose and falling off the Busa. So, I grabbed the snap ring pliers and checked that puppy out and, guess what, it was loose! I put it back with red Loctite so it should stay put. I'll add that bit of useful info to the other stuff I have already mined from this board.
Now all I have to do is continue to ignore all the threads about modding the bike for additional punch at the strip. LALALALALALALALALALALA, I can't see them.

I hit a few false neutrals here and there on my '05 Busa when it had less than 1500 miles. Never missed second and I do use the clutch.

Just changed to Mobil 1 10W-30 at 2400 miles and it shifts like butter. Noticeable improvement.

I've stopped using the clutch for upshifts, way smoother without it(unless your shifting below say 4k but why would you do that?) it seems to me that when I do use the clutch its grabby and clunky(alittle more than 1k milesw/dino oil on bike).
